MARK L. PHARR OF MOUNT VERNON, IN

MARK L. PHARR OF MOUNT VERNON, IN

Mark Lee Pharr, 69, of Mt. Vernon finished his race and entered his eternal home on September 15, 2024, at Linda White Hospice in Evansville. Mark was born in Evansville on July 29, 1955, the son of Elmer and Wanda (Carter) Pharr.

Mark attended Mt. Vernon High School and joined the United States Navy in 1972, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Nespelen AOG 55 for 3 years during the Vietnam Era. Mark was extremely proud and honored to have been able to serve his country. Mark began working for the Posey County Sheriff’s Office as a jail officer in 1997 and served as Jail Commander under 3 Sheriffs, holding the position until his passing.

The greatest event in Mark’s life was when he became a Christian in 1992. From that moment forward, Mark lived his life for the Lord and his life took on new meaning. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Evansville.

Mark had a strong work ethic and poured himself into any job that he took on. When he wasn’t working, he loved spending time with his family and anything that got him outside. In his younger days, Mark played in several local bands and his love of playing guitar and singing continued throughout his life, including playing and singing at church. Mark also enjoyed reading books, studying history, and collecting pocketknives.

Mark is survived by the true loves of his life, his wife, Tammy (Hamblin) Pharr; children, Amanda (Darrell) Willett, Amy (Bradley) DeGraffenreid, Jessica (Rian) Nichols, Erin (Drew) Myers, and Mark Allen Pharr; grandchildren, Andi, Jazlyn, Hannah, Adam, Micah, Isaiah, and Hadley; brothers, Wayne (Barb) Pharr, Keith (Tammy Duncan) Pharr, and Jeff (Karen) Pharr; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial to follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Friday from 10:00 am until service time.
