Mount Vernon VS Gibson Southern Game Recap
The Mount Vernon Wildcats faced a tough defeat at the hands of Gibson Southern, falling 62-26 in a high-energy match up at Jewel Field. The game started with promise for Mount Vernon, as they took an early 14-0 lead thanks to a touchdown by Easton Hall and a 55-yard interception return by Hunter Pedrotti. However, Gibson Southern quickly responded, tying the game at 14 in the second quarter. The Wildcats then surged ahead with a series of explosive plays, including a 67-yard touchdown pass to Brady Schickel, to take a 24-20 lead into halftime. Despite strong efforts from Nash Hostetter, who caught an 82-yard touchdown pass, Mount Vernon couldn’t close the gap, and Gibson Southern pulled away in the second half.
Gibson Southern dominated the third and fourth quarters, capitalizing on Mount Vernon’s turnovers and maintaining control with consistent scoring. Zach Foster led the charge with multiple touchdown passes, while Chase Thaxton's strong rushing performance added to the Wildcats' woes. Gibson Southern finished with 463 yards of total offense, compared to Mount Vernon’s 278 yards. Although the loss was tough, Mount Vernon showed resilience, putting up four touchdowns against a top-ranked opponent. Looking ahead, Mount Vernon will host Princeton next week for Senior Night as they prepare for the postseason.
