A state-of-the-art recycling facility is coming to Mount Vernon and is expected to create more than 200 jobs. Avangard Innovative, the largest post-consumer resin producer in the country, will be opening a new plant in a field across from AstraZeneca on Indiana State Road 62. Jenna Richardt who is VP of Economic and Community Development for the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership says it was about a year long process. Richardt also says they have other customers here locally that make this a very attractive place for them to land. The 176-acre site will be the company's first location in Indiana, allowing them to increase service to the Midwest. Officials say this new venture will enrich the economy and bring new opportunities to the Tri-State. Construction is set to begin in 2023, with an opening date in 2024. 

 

Officials with the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (E-REP) and Posey County Economic Development Partnership (PCEDP) are merging organizations. Tara Barney who is the CEO of E-Rep says they have had much success working with Posey County this past year in attracting new business and advancing quality of life projects. Barney continued by saying that they look forward to nurturing that relationship further as they take on the added economic development responsibilities. Officials say over the past year, E-REP helped secure City of Mt. Vernon incentives for redevelopment of the former K-Mart Building, transforming the space for Country Mark. To protect the Mt. Vernon riverfront, they say E-REP secured a $100,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and helped complete the City of Mt. Vernon’s comprehensive plan.

 

 

North Posey Quarterback, Liam Stone is once again up for the Touchdown Live Player of the Week from 14 News. Stone carried the ball 28 times for 111 yards, completed 3-of-5 passes for 32 yards, and had 4 touchdowns in the Vikings 41-27 win over Forest Park last Friday in the first round of sectionals. North Posey Football fans can vote for Liam at 14 news dot com. 8-2 North Posey plays at 7-3 Paoli this Friday in the 2nd round of Sectionals.

 

 

Traffic reminder for drivers on State Road 62 in Posey County. Temporary lane closures in both directions of State Road 62 near Green Valley Drive continue, as contractors with Center Point Energy and High-County Construction perform spot improvements. Traffic is controlled by a flagger team, while the closures are active. Daily works starts at 8:00 AM and wraps up by 6:00 PM, leaving the lanes open during the evening. According to INDOT, if the weather cooperates, the project could be finished by the end of the week.

 

 

There's a community food giveaway event happening for residents in Evansville today. Community group, Feed Evansville will be holding the event today from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, or until supplies run out. It's happening at the Fulton Square Apartments, which are located at 1328 Dresden Street in Evansville. During the community food share, residents in need of food assistance can receive non-perishable items.

 

The Franklin Street Events Association is inviting kids and their families to their annual trick-or-treat event in Evansville. During the association's "Trick or Treat on Franklin St" event, all ages are invited to trick-or-treat at participating businesses along West Franklin Street in Evansville. The event will take place this Saturday, October 29th from 2:00-4:00 PM.

 

Evansville Fire Department Division Chief Mike Larson says the ATF is offering a $5,000 award for information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in starting the fire on Morton Avenue last week. Despite the reward being offered, Division Chief Larson said at this time it is not a criminal investigation. Since the fire on Morton Avenue and East Franklin Street last Monday, several agencies have been brought onto the investigation into what caused the blaze – including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Authorities say that if they can determine a cause, it could take weeks. Larson says the ATF is offering the reward, but it doesn’t mean criminal activity was involved. Instead, it’s offered to eliminate possibilities.

- University of Evansville Men's Soccer tied the Indiana Hoosiers at home on campus, 1-1. The Purple Aces are now 6-3-5 on the season.
