The Posey County Community Foundation announced the recipient of the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Posey County. The recipient was Reagan Koester of North Posey High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership. Reagan is the daughter of Dale and Lisa Koester, of Wadesville, Indiana, and plans to attend Purdue University to study Agriculture Business with a concentration in Finance and Pre-Law. In addition to excelling academically, she has been involved in a variety of school activities including the Student Council, FFA, and Business Professionals of America. Reagan has served as the Vice-President of the Class of 2022 for all four years of high school. Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. The scholarship is for undergraduate students studying on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

 

Mater Dei quarterback Mason Wunderlich is one of three finalists for the 2022 Indiana Mr. Football award. Wunderlich was voted last week as the Mr. Football quarterback winner by the Indiana Football Coaches Association following his efforts in the Wildcats’ run to the Class 2A state championship. He’s on the list with Andrean two-way standout and Notre Dame commit Drayk Bowen and Center Grove running back Micah Coyle. Wunderlich led the Wildcats to two consecutive state title appearances in 2021 and 2022, ending his career with 7,735 passing yards and 78 passing touchdowns. During his senior season, the 6-foot-5 quarterback threw for 2,911 yards and 29 touchdowns, completing 65.3% of his passes. He also added 382 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. In this year’s state championship game, Wunderlich threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the 20-10 victory over Andrean.

 

Tonight at 6:00 PM there is the North Posey Holiday Bash inside the North Posey High School Auditorium. The evening will feature North Posey Jr. and Sr. High School band, choir, and art students. The band and choir concert will start at 6:30 PM. There will also be special art displays, toy donation buckets, and picture with Santa will take place before and after the concert. This event is free to attend.

Then, tomorrow night it’s the ‘Spirit of Christmas Toy Drive’ as North Posey is inviting everyone to their boys’ basketball game against Mater Dei. Trees representing the North Posey schools and decorated by students will be available for viewing. Santa will be available for pictures tomorrow evening from 6:00-7:30 PM. Face painting and ornament making will also be available for children 12 and under. New, unwrapped toy donations will be collected to benefit Toys for Tots.

 

The Town of Poseyville is presenting a Day of Family fun this Saturday at the Poseyville Community Center. The event will last from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday. Stop by and enjoy games, crafts, cookies, hot chocolate, and hot cider.

 

Earlier this week, the AP High School Boys Basketball rankings were released for the state of Indiana. In Class 3A, North Daviess is ranked 2nd. Class 2A has South Spencer 6th and South Knox 9th. In Class 1A, Evansville Christian is 3rd and Barr-Reeve is 8th. Heritage Hills is receiving votes in Class 3A.

 

Sports: 

- In Men's College Basketball the Louisville Cardinals picked up their first win of the season as they defeated WKU at home, 94-83. The Cardinals are 1-9 on the year and the Tops fall to 8-2. 

- The Indiana Pacers defeated the Golden State Warriors in Indy, 125-119. For the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton had 29 points and 6 assist. Indiana is 15-14 on the season.
