The Mt. Vernon River Days gets underway this weekend. It takes place this evening and Saturday. River Days includes vendors, concessions, and numerous events on both days. There will be the Smoke on the Ohio event. Teams from Posey County will be going after the defending Posey County champion, Matt Williams of Hawg Boyz BBQ. Tomorrow, there will be a Cornhole Tournament along the riverfront. Sign-ups will be at 12:00 PM and the tournament starts at 1:00 PM. Cost per-team is 30 dollars.

 

Also coming up this weekend, it’s the Saint Wendel Social tomorrow and Sunday. The Social takes place at 10542 West Boonville New Harmony Road from 5:00-9:00 PM tomorrow night and 11:00 AM-8:00 PM on Sunday. There will be all kinds of children’s games, many youth activities, food booths, theme baskets, face painting, kiddie tractor pull (ages 3-10), bingo, and special auction items. Tomorrow evening from 5:00-7:30 PM there will be a pork chop dinner and on Sunday from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM there will be a country chicken dinner. Also, a part of the event is the Saint Wendel Social Raffle that features $10,000 in cash prizes. The raffle will feature (1) 5,000-dollar winner, (4) 1,000-dollar winners, and (2) 500-dollar winners. You can buy a raffle ticket for $10, (3) for $25, or (13) for $100.

 

Officials with the West Side Nut Club have released details for the group's annual Fall Festival Pet Parade. The 2022 West Side Nut Club Fall Festival Pet Parade will get underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, with line-up beginning at 8 a.m. and judging at 9 a.m. According to WSNC, the 2022 Pet Parade will include eight categories - Girl With Pet, Boy With Pet, Group With Pet, Girl No Pet, Boy No Pet, Group No Pet, Special Group, and Large Animals. The parade route will travel west on West Franklin Street past the Main Stage located at 12th Avenue. The nut club says the event, which is sponsored by the Pet Food Center and the Vanderburgh Humane Society, is open to kids of all ages, with or without pets.

 

Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Princeton, Indiana, is looking to add new members to its team. Toyota says it's currently looking to hire new Industrial Automation Maintenance Team Members. A job listing from Toyota says it's looking to fill those positions with the addition of its two all-new SUV lines, which was an $803 million project that was announced back in April 2021. According to Toyota, starting pay for Industrial Automation Maintenance Team Members ranges from $28 to $39.50 per hour, with raises every 6 months. Toyota says a new hire bonus of $5,000 is also available to new hires.

 

Tonight, is week 4 of the High School Football season across the tri-state. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats have a long road-trip to take on Jeffersonville at 6:30 PM. Mt. Vernon Football will be going for a 3rd-straight win as they sit at 2-1 on the season. Jeffersonville is 0-2. If you can’t make the long trip, Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have you covered with the radio broadcast this evening on 106.7 FM WMVI.

The North Posey Vikings are also on the road tonight at the Tell City Marksmen. North Posey Football is hoping to avoid back-to-back losses as they are 2-1 on the year. Tell City sits at 1-2. Jordan Fisher will have the broadcast on 98.9 WPIW with kickoff at 7:00 PM. Both the Mt. Vernon and North Posey Football games this evening can be heard online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

Local Sports From Last Night: 

- Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer defeated Gibson Southern, 3-0. Rylan Paul scored (2) goals and Grant Doherty had (1) goal. 

- Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer beat South Spencer, 7-2. Maty Burnett scored (6) goals and Ella Sponn had (1) goal. 

- Mt. Vernon Girls Golf finished 2nd in their match against Southridge and Tell City at the Huntingburg Country Club. The Wildcats as a team shot 212. Hadley Weatherford lead MV with a score of 52. Southridge won the match with a team score of 207 and Tell City finished last with a team score of 272. 

- North Posey Volleyball outlasted Memorial on the road in 5-sets. Vikings improve to 12-2 on the season. 

- North Posey Boys Soccer lost at Pike Central, 5-2. 

- University of Evansville Women's Soccer fell on the road at Southeast Missouri State, 1-0. Purple Aces drop to 1-2-2 on the year.
