MSD of North Posey County has scheduled Preschool Screening Clinics which will be offered to children ages 3, 4 and 5 at no cost to parents to assess developmental and speech/language skills. The last fall clinic will be held next Tuesday, December 13th. Screenings are by appointment only. The number to call is (812) 874-2243.
Mt. Vernon’s Christmas on Main Street starts tonight. The Christmas Parade will begin at 7:00 PM and the Christmas Tree lighting will follow at 7:50 PM. There are a few more events planned for Saturday as well. At 9:00 AM there is the Christmas Character Breakfast. Then from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, it’s the Kid’s Christmas Party. Food Trucks will be available, along with music and fun. At 5:00 PM there will be a Christmas Movie at Amphitheater. During this time, you can round up at the Dairy Queen in Mt. Vernon and the proceeds will go to Christmas on Main Street.
North Posey High School is hosting a Parents’ Night Out tomorrow evening. Any kids ages 3 years through 6th grade are invited. Drop off the kids for a fun night from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM. There will be games, crafts, music, movies, and dinner. It is 30 dollars per child and 25 dollars for siblings. The event is sponsored by the Class of 2025. Please register in advance. The University of Evansville has announced plans to commemorate the 45th anniversary of a deadly plane crash that killed 29 people, including members of the UE basketball team. On December 13, 1977, a plane crashed at 7:22 PM., just 90 seconds after takeoff. The event tragically took all 29 lives on board, including the UE men’s basketball team, supporters of the Purple Aces, and the flight crew. To commemorate the 45th anniversary and remember those lives, UE has planned two services on Tuesday, December 13, that are open to the campus community and public.
According to a press release, a daytime service will be held at noon at Memorial Plaza on campus, located directly behind Olmsted Hall. Officials say afterwards, a reception will be held in the Class of 1959 Gallery, located on the second floor of Ridgway University Center. Light refreshments will be served. They say a evening service, which begins at 7:00 PM., will be held inside Neu Chapel. Speakers for the evening include Reverend Cynthia Bumb ‘81, Curt Begle ‘99, and Mike Blake, sportscaster. A moment of silence will also be observed at 7:22 PM.
Ahead of the anniversary services, the university is inviting the public to stream From the Ashes: The University of Evansville Purple Aces. The documentary, produced and directed by Joe Atkinson, assistant professor of communication, tells the story of the 1977 UE Men’s Basketball team, the crash, and its aftermath. From the Ashes will premiere at 7:00 PM. on Monday, December 12, on the university's website.
