Two Posey County high school football players are up for the Evansville Courier and Press Football Player of the Week Award for their week 2 performance this past Friday. Mt. Vernon Senior, Ryder Snodgrass is one of those players. He went 9-for-12 passing for 217 yards and threw 4 touchdowns in the Wildcats 56-28 victory over South Spencer. The other Posey County player is North Posey Senior, Jed Galvin. He carried the ball 15 times this past Friday for 208 yards and found the endzone 4 times in the Vikings 48-7 win against Princeton. We are now through two weeks of the high school football regular season and yesterday the updated Indiana Football Coaches Association Rankings were released. The North Posey Vikings are ranked 4th in Class 2A. There are a handful of other tri-state teams receiving recognition as well. In Class 5A, Castle is 12th. In Class 4A, Reitz is 3rd. There are several teams ranked in Class 3A with Memorial 1st, Gibson Southern 2nd, Heritage Hills 3rd, and Mater Dei is 7th. In Class 1A, Forest Park is 10th.  

This Friday night, the Mt. Vernon Wildcats will be at home against Pike Central at 6:30 PM and the North Posey Vikings will face South Spencer on the road at 7:00 PM.

 

Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost in straight sets at Boonville. The Wildcats fall to 2-5 on the year. Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer cruised to a 6-0 win at Boonville. The Lady Wildcats improve to 4-4 on the season.

North Posey Boys Tennis lost 5-0 at home against Gibson Southern. The Vikings are now 5-3 on the year.

 

The September Tox-away day is tomorrow from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center. This is a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals such as pesticides, cleaners, non-latex paint, non- alkaline batteries, etc. If you need more information, you can contact the district at 812-838-1613.

 

Starting today at the Evansville Regional Airport, flights from Evansville to Chicago have returned. Back in April, leaders at Evansville Regional Airport announced the return of these direct flights. The flights are exclusively on American Airlines. Leaders say it’s been a long two years since the flights stopped. That’s why they worked diligently with American and local leaders to get them back. The flights start today and will be twice daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They will also return to Evansville from Chicago twice daily.

 

Holiday World's Halloween in the Sky drone show is back on Saturday nights during Happy Halloween Weekends. Officials say this all begins September 21st.  The show will feature brand-new scenes made of 500 drones. Guests who purchase tickets for Sundays during the event, can enter the park after 5:00 PM on Saturday nights to enjoy the show with the Twilight Ticket. Happy Halloween weekends will include Holiday World rides, new Halloween-themed shows, a 3D Candy Farm, Carnival Chaos, a hayride, a corn maze, and free trick-or-treat trail for kids 12 and younger. Officials say Halloween in the Sky is free with park admission and the show will begin at 7:45 PM with a DJ Dance party before. 

 

Sports: 

Coming up this evening in local high school sports…it’s a somewhat quiet evening between Mt. Vernon and North Posey teams. Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer is home against South Knox at 5:00 PM and North Posey Boys Tennis plays at Southridge at 4:30 PM.                                                                                                                                                                                                  

The St. Louis Cardinals bounced back on Tuesday night in the middle game of their 3-game series in Milwaukee. The Cardinals beat the Brewers, 7-4 in 10 innings. St. Louis improves to 70-69 on the year. They stay 5.5 games out of a playoff spot in the National League Wild Card race. The Redbirds and Brewers wrap up their 3-game set tonight at 6:40 PM.

The Chicago Cubs got shutout by the Pittsburgh Pirates at home in game 2 of their series, 5-0. The Cubs have now lost back-to-back games and are 71-68 on the season. Chicago has fallen to 4.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves for the final Wild Card spot in the National League. The Cubs will try to avoid a 3-game sweep against the Pirates this evening in Chicago at 6:40 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds were off last night after taking the opening game of a 3-game set at home against the Houston Astros on Monday. The two teams continue their series tonight with game 2 at 5:40 PM. The Reds have a record of 66-73.
