A Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on felony charges. According to a press release, Jason Edward Overton was sentenced on Tuesday and found guilty of four charges. Those four charges are Operating a Motor Vehicle After Forfeiture of License for Life, Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, and Possession of Paraphernalia. After the guilty verdict, the jury then heard evidence in a second phase of the trial and found Overton guilty of being a habitual offender under Indiana law due to his prior felony convictions. Overton’s prior felonies include Resisting Law Enforcement, carrying a Handgun Without a License and Operating a Motor Vehicle After Forfeiture of License for Life.

A few of the booths we have heard from include the Newlife Rescue and Adoption Booth #50. The are in front of Paul’s Menswear. They will be serving BBQ pulled pork nachos and sliced apples with caramel cheesecake dip. This is the first time they have had a booth at the Fall Fest, so be sure to check them out.
St. Phillip Catholic Church/School is Booth #92 which is located near the stage. They have Bosco sticks, deep fried pickle spears, deep fried cheese curds, the only booth with burgoo, and cheesy westside pork bites.
St. Peter’s UCC, Wadesville Booth #109 will have ham and beans, chicken and dumplings, tenderloin sandwich, and fish sandwich. Their booth is bright orange.
A former rivalry game between two historic college men's basketball programs will resume in 2025. Indiana vs. Kentucky is back. Kentucky Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart and Indiana Athletic Director Scott Dolson announced an agreement for a four-game men's basketball series to start in the 2025-2026 season. The series will kick off on December 20th, 2025 at Rupp Arena. The second game will be December 27th, 2026 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The third game will be on December 18th, 2027 back at Rupp Arena. The fourth game will be set on December 16th, 2028 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana. The last time both teams took on each other in the regular season was when Indiana beat Kentucky, 73-72 at Assembly Hall in December of 2011.
Yesterday, the updated AP High School Football rankings were released heading into Week 8. In Class 5A, North is 11th and Castle is 12th. Class 4A has Reitz 2nd and Memorial is 8th. Moving on to Class 3A where Gibson Southern is 6th, Heritage Hills 7th, Southridge and Vincennes are tied for 15th. In Class 2A, North Posey is 4th.
Sports Tonight:
- North Posey Girls Soccer takes on Tell City in the First Round of the Class 1A Sectional 48 at South Spencer High School. They are the second match of the night and will start around 7:00 PM.
- North Posey Volleyball is home against Jasper. The JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match will follow around 7:00 PM.
Sports From Tuesday:
- North Posey Boys Tennis saw their strong season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to Gibson Southern in the Regional Semifinals last night. The Vikings finished with a 13-10 record and won their first Sectional Championship in 13 years.
- North Posey Boys Soccer lost their first-round sectional match in penalty kicks against Wood Memorial. The Vikings season concludes with a 4-13 record.
- Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer lost in the first round of the Sectionals against Gibson Southern, 9-0. The Lady Wildcats Soccer team wraps up their season with a 6-8 record.
- Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost at Tecumseh in straight sets. The Wildcats are now 11-12 on the year.
