A woman and a juvenile will face battery charges after an incident near Mount Vernon Senior High School. Officers say the victim told them she was walking on 6th Street when a vehicle pulled up. The victim says 35-year-old Heather Hyatt jumped out of the car and assaulted her. According to the victim, when she started to defend herself, a juvenile also got out of the car and she says the juvenile began to assault the victim as well. Hyatt and the juvenile got in the car and then left. Authorities found Hyatt at her home and took her into custody.
It’s that time of year again. The Salvation Army is currently looking for volunteers to “ring the bells” for our 2023 Red Kettle Campaign. The Posey County campaign will run from November 25th through December 23rd. The Red Kettles will be at McKim’s IGA on Thursday’s from 4:00-6:00 PM & Saturday’s from 9:00-3:00 PM, Priceless on Saturday’s from 9:00-3:00 PM, and JL Hirschs on Saturday’s from 8:00-4:00 PM. Interested individuals or groups can register for 2-hour shifts at Registertoring.com or call Family Matters at 812-838-6875. Donations collected in Posey County go to help the people of Posey County.
The MSD of North Posey County School Board says that they feel it is critical to obtain your input on the next superintendent. They have authorized a survey that is available for the community’s input. The Board will use the results to guide their questions to applicants and help determine the best person to be superintendent of the district. All efforts are being made to guarantee your confidentiality. The survey is being conducted and tabulated by Indiana State University. No IP addresses will be collected. The Board will receive only the overall responses to the survey. Only one survey will be allowed to be tabulated at an individual computer. You are free to discontinue the survey at any time. EVSC students won’t be attending class on the day of the total solar eclipse next year. School officials say they’ve revised their school calendar to accommodate for the highly anticipated rare event, which will pass directly over southwest Indiana. The revised calendar now shows EVSC schools won’t be in session on April 8th. As a result of this change, schools will now be in session on April 19th.
The Fall Classic is set after last night’s NLCS Game 7 in Philadelphia with the Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona won Game 7 on the road, 4-2. The Diamondbacks will face the Texas Rangers in the World Series, which starts this Friday at Texas. Both teams won back-to-back games on the road to get to the World Series. For Arizona, it’s their first trip to the Fall Classic since 2001 and for Texas since 2011. Both teams lost over a hundred games just two seasons ago.
