The winner of the 2-million-dollar West Side Nut Club half pot has stepped forward publicly to claim his prize. State regulations allow the winner to accept the money anonymously, so this is the first time in Fall Festival history a winner has chosen to identify themselves. During a press conference yesterday, it was announced that the winner of this year’s Half Pot is Alfred Lindsey. He came forward Tuesday afternoon to accept a giant check alongside his family. Lindsey is a former Evansville Fire Captain and Evansville City Council member. The west side native says he bought $300 worth of half pot tickets for him and his two sons. They had agreed to split the winnings if any of them won. Lindsey says he purchased the winning ticket on Monday, the first official day of the Fall Festival. Lindsey says he does not know what he and his sons’ plans are yet for the money long term. Lindsey says he wasn’t worried about being the first winner to come forward. He explained he decided to identify himself to help dispel some of the rumors going around online about the half pot being illegitimate. Lindsey says he plans to enter again next year in the hopes he gets lucky a second time.

National Teen Driver Safety Week is a vital reminder that traffic accidents remain a leading cause of death for teens aged 15 to 18. In 2022, over 800 teen drivers nationwide lost their lives in crashes, and Posey County law enforcement is urging young drivers to stay focused behind the wheel. According to Posey County’s Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Fortune, distracted driving is one of the most significant risks for teen drivers. Cell phone use has led to numerous accidents in the area. In rural Posey County, deer-related accidents are also common, particularly at night when drivers are more likely to be distracted by their phones. Drowsy driving, particularly with late-night road construction, is another danger. While Posey County has not seen many severe crashes recently, Fortune stresses the importance of ongoing conversations between parents and teens about safe driving practices. As National Teen Driver Safety Week begins, Posey County officials encourage parents to remind their teens to stay alert, focused, and safe behind the wheel.
