Coming up this evening in local high school sports…North Posey Softball is home against Harrison at 5:00 PM. Chris Morlan will have the broadcast on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
North Posey Baseball travels to Jasper for a 5:30 PM first pitch.
Mt. Vernon High School is having their free athletic physical night this evening in the Mt. Vernon High School Athletic Foyer. Pre-screening for off-season athletes that will be incoming 9th through 12 grades will start at 5:00 PM. In-season athletes should arrive starting at 5:30 PM. There will be no admission after 6:30 PM. Student athletes should bring their entire physical form with them to the free physical night. Incoming 9th grade athletes will also be doing concussion screening. Athletes should bring their Chromebook with them to use for the screening.
Mt. Vernon Junior High School is having their parent orientation for future 6th graders tomorrow night from 6:00-6:45 PM. The evening will start at 6:00 PM in the MVJS Main Gym with a welcome and presentation. You will enter through door 21 on the north side of the building. The night is reserved just for parents. If you are unable to attend, an information packet can be picked up from the Junior High School. If you have any questions, they say to call the Junior High office at 812-833-2077.
Yesterday, the updated High School Softball rankings were released, and the North Posey Vikings are ranked 11th in Class 2A. In Class 4A, Castle is 2nd. Class 3A has Gibson Southern 1st, Heritage Hills 10th, and Boonville is 15th. Finally, in Class 1A…Tecumseh is 1st and Barr-Reeve is 10th.
On Monday, the updated High School Baseball rankings were released, and the North Posey Vikings are ranked #1 in Class 2A. Following the Vikings, Forest Park is 3rd and Mater Dei is 9th. In Class 4A, North is 8th. Class 3A has Jasper 4th and Princeton 8th. Class 1A features Barr-Reeve 2nd and Northeast Dubois 6th. Other teams in the area receiving votes include Memorial, Vincennes, North Daviess, and Tecumseh.
For the first time in the NBA Playoffs this year, the Indiana Pacers are now facing elimination. Last night the Pacers got thumped in New York by the Knicks in Game 5, 121-91. Jalen Brunson poured in a game-high 44 points for New York. Pascal Siakam had 22 points for Indiana. The Pacers now trail the best-of-seven second round series, 3-2. Game 6 is back in Indy on Friday night.
In Major League Baseball tonight…the St. Louis Cardinals wrap up their three-game series in Los Angeles against the Angels at 8:07 PM.
The Chicago Cubs finish up their three-game set with the Braves in Atlanta at 6:20 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds conclude their three-game series in Arizona against the D-Backs at 2:40 PM.
