Last night the IHSAA Boys Basketball postseason got underway with the first round of Sectionals. Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball won their first game against Heritage Hills, 55-46. The Wildcats improve to 13-12 overall and will play Memorial on Friday night at 7:30 PM in the Semi-Finals of the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Boonville High School. Memorial is 16-6 on the year and beat Mt. Vernon during the regular season on February 11th, 60-31.

 

North Posey Boys Basketball will play their first Sectional game tonight against Tell City at 5:30 PM. The Vikings play in the Class 2A Sectional 48 hosted by Tell City High School. North Posey went 11-11 in the regular season and lost to Tell City on the road on February 22nd, 60-57. You can listen to the game this evening on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

Posey County Solid Waste District says that their Tox-Away Days start again tomorrow from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon Recycle Center. It is located on Lower New Harmony Road in Mt. Vernon. This is a chance for the community to bring in all their hazardous waste. Tox-Away Day will continue the first Thursday of every month through December.

 

The Ohio Valley Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments get underway today at Ford Center and run through Saturday evening. This year marks the eighth consecutive year that the tournament will be held at the Ford Center, with plans to remain until at least 2026. Tickets are available at the box office and online.

The Ohio Valley Conference announced that USI Women’s Basketball graduate forward Meredith Raley, and senior guard Vanessa Shafford were recognized with All-OVC honors for the second consecutive year. Raley was named to the All-OVC First Team as her 13.6 PPG ranked top 10 in the OVC while leading the conference in field goal percentage. Shafford was named to the All-OVC Second Team, and her 12.3 PPG was top 15 in the OVC.  

 

Last night in Men’s College Basketball…the Indiana Hoosiers saw their 3-game winning streak come to an end with a 73-64 loss at Oregon. Trey Galloway scored 16 points for IU. The Hoosiers slip to 18-12 overall and 9-10 in the Big 10. They play their final game of the regular season on Saturday at home against Ohio State.

#18 Purdue walloped Rutgers at home 100-71. Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith each had 23 points in the win. The Boilermakers show 56% from the field and 50% from 3-point range as they went 18-for-36. Purdue moves to 21-9 on the year and 13-6 in the Big 10. They finish up their regular season schedule at Illinois on Friday.

#19 Kentucky had no problem at home with LSU as the Wildcats sailed to a 95-64 win. They improve to 20-10 on the season and 9-8 in the SEC. UK’s final regular season game is on Saturday at #15 Missouri.

 

From the NBA on Tuesday…the Indiana Pacers defeated the Houston Rockets at home, 115-102. Tyrese Haliburton led the way with 28 points and 15 assists. The Pacers move to 35-25 overall. They will be in Atlanta tomorrow night to face the Hawks.
