The Habitat for Humanity of Evansville will dedicate its first house built in Poseyville today. The home is being sponsored by the North Posey Build, which helped bring together residents and the faith community in northern Posey County to raise funds for families in need of affordable housing. The six-bedroom home is located at 86 E. Oak Street in Poseyville. The dedication begins at 5:00 PM tonight. Habitat for Humanity considers this home a huge milestone for the organization and the Poseyville community. The Habitat says they look forward to building more homes in Poseyville in the future.
North Posey Softball (28-0) is back in the Class 2A State Finals for a second-straight year. They will play Andrean (29-7) on Friday at 4:30 PM CT in the Class 2A State Championship game at Purdue University. All ticket sales will be digital only via GoFan ticketing. No cash or credit card sales at the game. Presenting purchase verification on mobile devices will be used to gain admittance at the gate. Fans are not to validate tickets until asked to do so at the stadium. Pre-sale electronic tickets will close for participating schools tomorrow at 12:00 PM. Remaining electronic tickets will be placed on the ihsaa.org website. Tickets are 15 dollars, and all seats are general admission. Gates on Friday will open at 3:00 PM CT. You will be able to hear the game on 98.9 FM WPIW, 106.7 FM WMVI, and poseycountyradio.com. Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast.
Mt. Vernon Softball has hired a new head coach. At their regular meeting on Monday, the School Board of Trustees hired Hank Lopez, III, to fill the vacancy at the top of the MVHS Softball program. Coach Lopez was hired to replace Coach Kasey Spindler who left for her first administration job. Lopez has 16 years as a head baseball coach under his belt with 11 seasons at Riverton Parke and 5 more at North Vermillion. Prior to becoming the head coach at Riverton Parke, he was the assistant baseball coach for 3 seasons. Lopez came to Mt. Vernon as an assistant football coach and he will remain on staff for the MVHS football program.
The 1st Annual Smoke Poseyville Event is scheduled for Saturday, June 17th at the Poseyville Community Center. Funds raised will go towards growing community events that focus on enhancing the childhood experience in and around Poseyville. Family Matters of Posey County is inviting all golfers to their 5th Annual Golf Scramble on Friday, June 16th. It will be held at the Western Hills Country Club. The cost is 60 dollars per person, or 240 dollars per team. To register, call 812-838-6875.
The University of Evansville’s School of Education obtained approval from the Indiana Department of Education to introduce an Elementary Transition to Teaching program. According to a release from the University of Evansville, the elementary and secondary Transition to Teaching programs target individuals with undergraduate degrees who are seeking their teaching license in Indiana. Officials say students enrolled in the programs meet the coursework requirements for an initial Indiana educators license. The university’s Elementary Program includes 24 credit hours and can be completed within one calendar year. The secondary program requires 18 credit hours and can also be completed in one calendar year. Both programs include a minimum of 600 hours of clinical experience in area classrooms.
Owensboro Regional Airport is offering something Evansville Regional is not. Officials have formally announced a dozen flights per week between Owensboro and Chicago-O’Hare on Contour Airlines. The flights on jets that seat 30 passengers are scheduled to begin August 1st. Contour will drop its flights between Owensboro and Charlotte to make way for the Chicago route. OWB also offers flights to Nashville, St. Louis, and Orlando. Evansville Regional is working to bring back Chicago flights, after United and then American airlines dropped the service. EVV currently provides flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Orlando, with seasonal flights to Destin, Florida.
