The Alexandrian Public Library in Mt. Vernon is trying to help the community with this week’s heat. They want to remind the community that they are welcome inside to cool off this week. They say their air conditioning is running, the water fountain is flowing, and Wi-Fi is open and available. They are open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM. They are closed today for Juneteenth. The library is also open on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

 

Coming up this Saturday at Harmonie State Park is the Hot Rods at Harmonie event. Registration is from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM. Prizes will be awarded at 1:30 PM. There will be food and drinks available for purchase. There is no registration fee for cars, but the park entrance fee applies to all. It’s 7 dollars for Indiana plated vehicles and 9 dollars for out-of-sate vehicles. All cars, motorcycles, trucks, and SUV’s are welcome.

 

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is expected to be in Evansville Thursday. He will participate in a fireside chat moderated by former Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. They’re anticipated to discuss the current and economic future of the region. It’s happening at 11:30 AM at the Ford Center.

 

Community members in Evansville who are looking to get out of the heat will have a new option from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM this week. Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry says the C.K. Newsome Center has opened to the community as a cooling center. According to Mayor Terry, the American Red Cross is helping to provide water and supplies to those in the community who need them. As a reminder, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library locations are also open to those who need a place to go inside and cool down, with access to water fountains and bottle filling stations.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals failed to win their third-straight game last night as the lost in Miami to the Marlins, 9-8 in 10 innings. The Cardinals are back to 500 on the year at 36-36. The two teams finish up their series today at 11:40 AM.

The Chicago Cubs picked up a victory at home over the San Francisco Giants, 5-2. Chicago avoided a third-straight loss and improved to 35-39. They conclude the series today at 1:20 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds topped the Pirates in Pittsburgh, 2-1. The Reds are 35-38 and will wrap up their series in Pittsburgh today at 11:35 AM.
