An executive order issued by Gov. Mike Braun Tuesday directs state police agencies to work alongside U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and encourages local agencies to do the same. The order directs statewide agencies to report credible evidence of individuals in the United States illegally to the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center if they:

  • Have a prior criminal history or are suspected of a felony.
  • Are suspected of engaging in “hostile activities” like espionage or terror-related activities.
  • Present a significant threat to national security or public safety.

Agencies expected to cooperate with federal immigration officials include Indiana State Police, Indiana Excise Police, Indiana Department of Corrections and Indiana Gaming Commission. Members of the Indiana National Guard are directed to comply with requests for assistance as well, including assistance by way of facilities, personnel and resources.

The University of Evansville and Ivy Tech Community College are working together to provide more opportunities for students. The two announced a new partnership Tuesday called the ‘Guaranteed Admission Agreement.’ It means any Ivy Tech student who completes certain associate degrees with at least a 2.5 GPA is guaranteed admission to UE. Those in charge say they’re eager to make it easier for students to further their education, and the program is designed to make the transition as seamless as possible and keep students from losing credits. School officials say students who qualify will be guaranteed admission to all of UE bachelor’s programs, except for those like nursing or theatre, which have extra requirements. They will also receive at least a $20,000 scholarship per year for up to five semesters.
