Last night postseason basketball tipped off for many high school girls basketball teams across the state of Indiana. The Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball team earned a win in their first-round sectional game against Bosse, 42-29. The Wildcats advance to the semifinals of the Class 3A Sectional 32 and will face Boonville on Friday at 6:00 PM. The game will be played at Gibson Southern High School. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the radio call again on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.
North Posey Girls Basketball saw their season come to an end last night with a 43-36 loss to Crawford County in the first round of the Class 2A Sectional 48 at South Spencer High School. The Vikings finish the year with a 9-15 record.
From College Hoops last night, the Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Basketball team snapped a 3-game losing streak by beating Iowa at home, 74-68. Kel’el Ware paced the Hoosiers with 23 points and 10 rebounds. IU improves to 13-8 and 5-5 in the Big 10. They will be home on Saturday against Penn State at 11:00 AM.
#14 Illinois went on the road and took care of Ohio State, 87-75. Marcus Domask and Terrence Shannon Jr. each had 23 points for the Illini. Illinois runs their record to 16-5 and 7-3 in the Big 10. The Illini welcome Nebraska on Sunday at 5:30 PM.
The Louisville Cardinals dropped their 6th-straight game last night at Clemson, 70-64. The Cardinals stumble to 6-16 and 1-9 in the ACC. Louisville will be home against Florida State on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
From the NBA Tuesday evening, the Indiana Pacers saw their 3-game winning streak end in Boston with a 129-124 loss to the Celtics. Aaron Nesmith was the leading scorer for the Pacers with 26 points. He also had 12 rebounds and 7 assists. The Pacers are 27-21 and will be in New York tomorrow night to square off against the Knicks.
Coming up tonight in local sports action…the Evansville Purple Aces Men’s Basketball team is at home at Ford Center for a 7:00 game against Illinois Chicago. UE is looking for back-to-back wins as they sit at 12-9 on the year and 3-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Other Men’s College Basketball this evening will feature #2 Purdue at home against Northwestern at 5:30 PM. The Boilermakers are 19-2 overall and 8-2 in the Big 10.
#10 Kentucky welcomes Florida at 7:00 PM. The Cats are 15-4 and 5-2 in the SEC.
Posey County Council on Aging has announced that they will offer Free tax filing services this year. It will start next Tuesday February 6th and be each Tuesday through April 9th starting at 10:00 AM. The location is 611 West 8th Street in Mt. Vernon. The volunteers preparing the returns are trained and certified by the IRS. Businesses and farms are not eligible for this service. Appointments are required.
