News:

Yesterday morning around 7:00 AM, two Mt. Vernon Police Officers had finished their shift in the city and were driving home when they observed a white box-style Ford F-250 work truck traveling west on State Road 62 at a high rate of speed in the school zone in front of Marrs Elementary School. The vehicle’s speed was 94-mph in the 45-mph school zone. Officers stopped the vehicle and upon speaking to the driver, they could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverages. The driver was Justin R. Bell of Evansville. He said he was driving to work, was running late, and claimed he did not see the school zone signs or the flashing yellow lights that were activated at the time. Officers said Bell’s eyes were bloodshot, glassy, and his speech appeared to be slurred. He was arrested and transported to the Posey County Jail where a certified chemical breath test registered a breath alcohol concentration of .106. Bell was lodged at the Posey County Jail.
