The University of Evansville has received a generous gift from the trust of a UE alum Joyce Short. School officials say that the $41,000 donation will go towards enhancing the School of Education. They also say funding will support pre-service teachers by providing continued licensure testing resources and support with licensure fees. The gift will also support efforts to update and replenish their Early Literacy library for our pre-service teachers to use during student teaching, internships, and tutoring opportunities at area schools.

 

Coming up this Saturday at United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon, is a Pictures with Santa event. It will take place from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday. There will be free pictures, crafts, and refreshments. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 

Posey County Solid Waste District has announced that the December Tox-away day will be tomorrow from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center. This will be the last opportunity to properly dispose of household hazardous waste until March. For more information, call the Solid Waste District at 838-1613.

 

Ascension Saint Vincent's pediatric mobile dental clinic will be on site at Mount Vernon High School tomorrow. Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Boys Basketball earned their first victory of the season at home over Boonville, 44-36. The Vikings improve to 1-2 on the year. They play again tonight at Day School. The JV game tips at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game will follow at 7:00 PM. Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball lost at home to Princeton, 60-21. The Lady Wildcats are winless on the season at 0-7.

North Posey Girls Basketball returns to action this evening at home against Boonville. The JV game is set for 5:30 PM and the Varsity game is at 7:00 PM. The Lady Vikings sit at 3-1 overall and are playing for a 4th-striaight victory tonight. 

 

In Men’s College Basketball from Tuesday evening…the Evansville Purple Aces lost a thriller on the road in the conference opener, 63-61 at Murray State. Tanner Cuff missed what would have been a game-winning three point shot as time expired. Gabriel Pozzato led UE with 15 points and Cam Haffner added 14 points. The Aces couldn’t win a third-straight game as they slip to 3-5 on the season. They return home on Saturday at 1:00 PM to battle the Tops of Western Kentucky.

The Indiana Hoosiers hammered Sam Houston at home, 97-71. Myles Rice led IU with 19 points, and Malik Reneau had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Hoosiers improve to 6-2 on the year and will be home again on Friday against Miami (Ohio).

The 4th ranked Kentucky Wildcats lost their first game of the season at Clemson, 70-66. The Cats are now 7-1. UK plays next at Gonzaga on Saturday night.

 

From the NBA last night, the Indiana Pacers dropped a road game in Toronto against the Raptors, 122-111. Tyrese Haliburton poured in 30 points for Indiana. The Pacers are now 9-13 and play again tonight in Brooklyn against the Nets at 6:30 PM.
