Tuesday was a big day for some students in Mt. Vernon. School staff celebrated as several students signed on to start their careers at SABIC. The school is now partnering with the big company in their Work Based Learning Initiative. Starting in January, students will work a 4 hour morning shift for the company.
CenterPoint Energy has awarded Youth First $100,000 through its foundation. Officials say the gift’s goal is to strengthen the mental health and well-being of students in eight Youth First partner schools across Gibson, Posey, and Vanderburgh counties. Youth First officials say the money will help them provide their school-based student assistance program and family and community prevention programs. Two schools in Posey County receiving this gift is North Elementary School and West Elementary School.
Last night Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball lost a tough one at home to Heritage Hills in overtime, 62-57. The loss drops the Wildcats to 3-3 on the season. They are back in action on Friday at home as they take on Wood Memorial.
Coming up this evening Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball welcome Bosse. The JV game begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game will follow around 6:30 PM. The Lady Wildcats are still searching for their first victory of the year as they sit at 0-10 overall.
Yesterday in local college sports Evansville Women’s Basketball earned a win at home over Indiana University Columbus, 84-52. They improve to 4-6 on the year. Evansville Women’s Basketball will close the non-conference part of their schedule on Saturday at Loyola.
Tonight, Evansville Men’s Basketball is back on the road as they are down in Texas to play UT-Arlington at 7:00 PM. The Purple Aces are looking to end a 3-game slide as they have a record of 3-7. UE finishes the non-conference portion of their schedule this week with the game tonight at UT-Arlington and then at Ball State on Saturday.
