Posey County has issued a county wide ban on open burning. The ban went into effect yesterday and will be in effect for a minimum of 7 days. The ban on open burning will be reevaluated at that time and extended if necessary.

 

Posey County Prosecutor’s Office officials say an Evansville man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of burglary in Posey County. According to a press release, 56-year-old Wayne Headspeth was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges that include Burglary, Theft, Residential Entry, Intimidation and Criminal Trespass. Officials say, as part of his guilty plea, Headspeth admitted to breaking and entering a home in Posey County on May 10th, 2023, with the intent to commit a theft. Headspeth also admitted to being classified as a habitual offender with two prior felony convictions, including stolen property in Michigan in 2009 and burglary in Madison County, Indiana in 1987. He will be transported to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve his sentence.

 

This evening at the Poseyville Community Center, it’s the annual Town Hall Meeting. It will start at 6:00 PM. It’s a chance for the community to engage in meaningful discussions about economic development, share ideas to help shape the town’s future, and collaborate with fellow community members, leaders, and experts. This is free and open to the public. The Poseyville Community Center is located at 60 North Church Steet in Poseyville.

 

The mayor’s office in Mt. Vernon is gauging public interest in adding a public skatepark. The city shared an online survey to get input as to what the community might like to see in a potential skate park. Hunger Skateparks would be designing the park, if one was going to be built. They are the same company that designed Sunset Skate Park in Evansville. The last day to give feedback is September 13th.

 

Week 2 of the High School Football season is this Friday and yesterday the Indiana Football Coaches Association released this week’s poll. There are several tri-state teams receiving recognition. The North Posey Vikings are ranked 5th in Class 2A. Other teams that are ranked…in Class 5A, Castle is 8th. In Class 4A, Reitz sits at 3rd. Class 3A has several teams ranked…those being Heritage Hills 1st, Gibson Southern 2nd, Memorial 3rd, and Mater Dei 9th.

 

Sports: 

Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost at home against Central in 5 sets as the Wildcats dip to 1-4 on the season. Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer scratched out a 2-1 victory at home against Princeton in overtime. The Lady Wildcats improve to 2-2 on the year. North Posey Boys Tennis earned a win at home over Bosse, 4-1. The Vikings are now 2-2 on the season.

 

Coming up this evening in local high school sports…just one team in action between Mt. Vernon and North Posey…and that is North Posey Volleyball. The Vikings head to Evansville Christian. The JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match will follow around 7:00 PM.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals lost game 2 of their series at home against the San Diego Padres, 7-5. The Cardinals tumble to 65-67 on the season. St. Louis will try to avoid a 3rd-straight loss tonight in game 3 of the 4-game set with the Padres at 6:45 PM.  

The Chicago Cubs cruised past the Pirates in Pittsburgh last night, 9-5. The Cubs are now a game over 500 at 67-66.

The Cincinnati Reds fell at home to the Oakland Athletics, 5-4. Cincy drops to 63-69. Game 2 of that 3-game series is this evening at 5:40 PM.
