Posey County Emergency Management says there will be a town wide water shut off for the Town of New Harmony beginning at 8:00 AM this morning. They say a notification will be sent out when water has been restored and will be followed by a boil order.
Brittlebank Pool at Brittlebank Park in Mt. Vernon will not reopen this summer. City officials announced the closure after structural engineers reported that the pool is no longer safe due to accelerated deterioration over the past winter. The pool has served the community for more than 50 years and was nearing the end of its life cycle. Plans for a new pool are underway. The city has partnered with Hafer Associates of Evansville to begin the design process, and the public will have opportunities to provide input. Updates will be shared on the city’s Facebook page and website. In the meantime, the Ruth Fulwider Community Center, located at the Hedges School building, door 11, will remain open year-round. New events, activities, and programming are being planned for the summer. A full schedule and hiring details will be announced in the coming weeks.
Mt. Vernon Junior High School is putting on a production of Matilda Jr. The Musical this weekend. It will be at the Mt. Vernon High School Performing Arts Center on Friday at 7:00 PM and on Saturday at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are 7 dollars.
The Town of Cynthiana says their next Monthly Town Board Meeting will be on Monday, April 14th at 6:15 PM. The meeting will take place at Town Hall.
If you are interested in a career in EMS or becoming an EMT, Black Township Fire and Rescue will be having a basic EMT class starting April 28th. There is a limited number of spots still available. The class will be on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. After completion of this program, you will be eligible to test for the national registry certification. This Saturday is the 7th annual Mt. Vernon Football Dinner and Auction. It will take place at the Posey County 4-H Center. Doors open at 5:30 PM and Dinner will be at 6:30 PM. The food will be provided by Hawg n’ Sauce. There will also be a live and silent auction. The event is for those who are 21 years of age and older. You can purchase tickets online. Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball defeated Princeton at home, 6-3. Vikings Baseball improves to 2-0 on the year. They play again this evening at Mater Dei at 5:00 PM. The game will be played at Bosse Field.
North Posey Softball lost at Reitz in extra innings, 9-8. It took 9 innings to complete. The Vikings fall to 2-2.
Mt. Vernon Baseball got beat at home by South Spencer, 7-1. The Wildcats are now 1-1 on the season.
Mt. Vernon Softball fell 6-0 at home against North. They are 1-2 overall.
From Major League Baseball on Tuesday night…the St. Louis Cardinals snapped a 4-game losing streak in Pittsburgh as they defeated the Pirates, 5-3. The Cardinals improve to 5-6 on the year. They conclude their 3-game series in Pittsburgh today at 11:35 AM.
The Chicago Cubs scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to break a 6-6 tie and beat the Texas Rangers in Chicago, 10-6. The Cubs have a record of 9-5. They look for a 3-game sweep of the Rangers this afternoon at 1:20 PM.
Last night in the NBA…the Indiana Pacers won their 5th-straight game as they won at home 104-98 against the Washington Wizards. Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana improves to 48-31. They have 3 games left in the regular season and their magic number is down to 1 to clinch the #4 seed and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Pacers play tomorrow evening at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
