Yesterday, a grand opening and ribbon cutting was held at the Indiana Port of Mount Vernon. Officials gathered to celebrate the new railroad. It was built in partnership between Ports of Indiana and OmniTRAX. The Port of Indiana Mount Vernon is part of a complex system that moves goods through the region. Now, with the addition of a railroad, officials are hoping to increase that impact. Officials with the new operator, OmniTRAX, agree. The company moves a plethora of goods including industrial and agricultural products. Before the ribbon cutting, local elementary students visited the port to see the trains.

 

The MSD of Mt. Vernon is inviting all MSD of Mt. Vernon families to a Community Townhall with Dr. Stephanie Stewart and other school district leaders tomorrow evening. The Community Townhall will take place from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM at 601 Main Street in Mt. Vernon. This will be a chance to get to know the new superintendent and share your thoughts on a wide variety of topics.

 

Posey County Council on Aging says they are hiring for a few positions that are part-time and flexible. They are currently seeking to fill the positions of Driver and Homemaker. You must be at least 21 years old, pass a criminal background check, and pass a drug screen. For the Driver position, you must also have a clear motor vehicle report and be willing to obtain a ‘For Hire’ endorsement. All positions have a starting pay of $10.00 per-hour, are part-time, and have flexile days and hours. Mt. Vernon Volleyball says that sign-ups for their Youth Camp and Skills Camp are now open. The Youth Camp is for incoming 1st-8th graders and the Skills Camp is for incoming 5th-8th graders. They say to sign up prior to May 21st to ensure your camper receives a volleyball and camp shirt.

 

Last night Mt. Vernon Baseball got beat at Forest Park, 11-9. Wildcats Baseball is now 1-8 on the season.

North Posey Baseball took care of Tecumseh on the road, 14-5. Vikings Baseball improves to 7-3. They play again tonight at Harrison at 5:30 PM.

North Posey Softball picked up a road win at Memorial, 6-4. Viking Softball runs their record to 6-3. They take on Princeton at home this evening at 5:30 PM.

Mt. Vernon Softball did not play last night, but they journey to Central tonight at 5:00 PM. Wildcats Softball has a record of 3-3.

 

From Major League Baseball on Tuesday…the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Braves in Atlanta, 10-4. The Redbirds scored 3 runs in the 8th inning and 3 runs in the 9th inning. It snapped a 5-game losing streak as the Cardinals improve to 10-14. They go for a series win today at 11:15 AM.

The Chicago Cubs won a wild game at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-10 in 10 innings. Chicago scored 2 runs in the 8th, a run in the 9th, and a run in the 10th. Ian Happ hit the walk-off single. The Cubs improve to 15-10 and wrap up their brief 2-game set with the Dodgers tonight at 6:00 PM in Chicago.

The Cincinnati Reds lost in Miami to the Marlins, 4-3. The Reds fall to 11-13 overall. They conclude their series in Miami this afternoon at 12:10 PM.

 

In the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers won Game 2 of their First Round Series last night at home against the Milwaukee Bucks, 123-115. Pascal Siakam scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tyrese Haliburton added 21 points and 12 assists. The Pacers lead the best-of-seven series, 2-0. Game 3 is in Milwaukee on Friday.
