News:
Sunday, Mt. Vernon Police received a notification from Mt. Vernon’s newly installed Flock Camera System that a vehicle’s registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. Officers verified the license suspension through Posey County Dispatch and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon stopping, the driver, 48-year-old Jeremiah Johnson of Mt. Vernon, was advised of the reason for the traffic stop and that his license was suspended. Officers obtained consent to search the vehicle after Johnson pulled a firearm magazine pouch from under the console. Upon searching the truck, officers discovered a HiPoint 9mm handgun located under the driver’s seat. Officers ran a check to make sure that Johnson was allowed to possess a firearm and discovered he had an active protective order against him. Johnson was arrested and transported to the Posey County Jail and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Dangerous Person. The first Flock Camera was recently installed and operational on Friday, September 29th. This camera system is the first of its kind in Mt. Vernon.
A Mt. Vernon man has been arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, which is a Level 6 Felony. This past Sunday, a Mt. Vernon Police Officer observed a Ford truck traveling through Mt. Vernon with expired registration plates. The truck was pulled over and the driver, 55-year-old Stephan David Moorman, appeared very nervous and was shaking. While Moorman was looking for his insurance card, the officer obtained consent to search the vehicle. Upon searching the truck, the officer found a corner cut baggie under the seat cover that contained suspected Methamphetamine. Moorman was written a ticket for the expired registration and then was arrested and transported to the Posey County Jail.
