Coming up tonight both Mt. Vernon and North Posey Boys Basketball teams tip off their regular season schedules. Mt. Vernon is on the road at Vincennes Rivet and the varsity game will begin at 6:30 PM. You can hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. North Posey Boys Basketball starts the year on the road as well at Central. The varsity game starts at 7:00 PM. Catch the action on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball is home tonight as they take on South Spencer. The varsity game is scheduled for a 7:30 PM start as the Lady Wildcats are 0-5 overall. North Posey Girls Basketball welcomes Central for a 7:00 PM Varsity tipoff. The Lady Vikings have a record of 2-1.

 

Feed Evansville is looking for volunteers for a community event happening this week. According to Feed Evansville, volunteers are needed tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Feed Evansville says a food distribution event will be held at the CK Newsome Center in the west parking lot. Volunteers will help organize the food, give food to community members, and clean up after the event. Those interested in volunteering should send an email to feedevv@gmail.com to get connected. Volunteers who come out to the event are also asked to dress for outdoor weather.

 

North Posey High School Principal, Sean Fisher was recognized as the District 11 Principal of the Year at the IASP banquet Sunday night. The Indiana Association of School Principals annually recognizes outstanding school leaders in each of the 12 Indiana districts who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students. These principals are acknowledged by their peers for the exemplary contributions they have made to the profession.

 

Another Mount Vernon High School student has won the weekly Courier and Press Student of the Week award. Last Week, Kyra Rainey was the winner. She is a senior at Mt. Vernon High School who has participated in the Health Science Institute and currently observes in local hospitals, gaining valuable hands-on experience in numerous fields of medicine. Aside from academics, Kyra is active in extracurricular activities, including basketball, National Honor Society, and Unified Track.

 

Last night in local college sports…USI Men’s Basketball defeated Indiana State, 87-77. Four Screaming Eagles players finished in double-figures, led by Stephen Olowoniyi with 16 points. Jayland Randall had 15 points, Jack Mielke collected 14 points, and Damoni Harrison chipped in with 12 points. It’s now back-to-back wins for USI, as they improve to 3-4 on the season.

 

From the NBA on Monday night…the Indiana Pacers took out the New Orleans Pelicans at home, 114-110. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 34 points and 13 assists. It’s now back-to-back wins for the Pacers as they run their record to 8-10. The Pacers’ next game is tomorrow evening at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.
