Yesterday morning at 12:30 AM, Mt. Vernon Police initiated a traffic stop around 9th and Main Street for failing to use a turn signal and having an obstructed license plate. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified at 36-year-old Kelli Hale of Ridgway, Illinois. Multiple times Kelli reached around inside the vehicle after being asked not to several times by officers. Officers asked Kelli to exit the vehicle and during a search of Kelli’s vehicle, officers located a purse under the driver’s seat. The purse contained three bags of white, crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl. The total weight of the suspected drugs was over 36 grams. Officers also located Schedule 4 pills in the cup holder of the vehicle and a digital scale in the floorboard. Kelli was arrested and lodged at the Posey County Jail. She has multiple charges against her, including Dealing and Possession of Methamphetamine, both of which are a Level 3 Felony.
Family Matters of Posey County is having a Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer Recruitment Event this evening from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM. It will be held at the Alexandrian Public Library in Mt. Vernon. They will be set up in the Wabash Room.
North Posey High School says they are hosting a blood drive this Thursday from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Any student over the age of 16 can sign up in the office. Students under the age of 18 must get a permission slip signed and turned in before donating. Students can sign up in the North Posey High School office.
Coming up this Friday, the Knights of St. John is hosting their annual Fish Fry in St. Wendel. Dinner will be served from 5:00-7:00 PM and there will be dine-in and drive-thru options. The menu consists of Fried Fish, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Cornbread, and Drinks. The cost is 6 dollars for children and 13 dollars for adults. After the dinner portion, music and dancing is from 7:00-11:00 PM.
The Mt. Vernon and North Posey Boys Basketball season came to an end last Friday in the Semi-Final Round of the Sectionals. In the NBA on Monday night…the Indiana Pacers concluded their 3-game road-trip with a 121-103 loss in Chicago to the Bulls. The Pacers have lost 3-straight games as they have played without their star point guard in Tyrese Haliburton for 3-straight games. Indiana is now 35-28. They play again this evening at home against the Milwaukee Bucks at 6:30 PM.
