The summer market season is officially underway in Posey County as last night was the first Mount Vernon Market Nights on the Riverfront. This is a new event this year taking place from 4 to 7 on Monday. You can expect vendors, food trucks and music every Monday evening on the Mount Vernon riverfront through July 29th. This new event is brought to you in part my the Expressway Automall and Van Haaften & Farrar Attorneys at Law.
Poseyville will open their farmers market for the first time this year this afternoon from 4 to 7. This will be the opening extravaganza with a bounce house for the kids, kids barrel train, free popcorn, cotton candy and games. That will take place at the Poseyville community center. Again that begins tonight at 4PM.
And Wadesville will be staring their farmers market on Thursday. Their will take place from 3-6 weekly.
The Posey County Solid Waste District will have their next Tox-Away Day is coming up this Thursday from 2 to 6 PM. This will take place at the Mount Vernon Recycling Center on Lower Mount Vernon Road. This opportunity allows you a chance to get rid of household chemicals, non latex paints, herbicides, insecticides, non alkaline batteries and pool chemicals safely. If you have any questions about what they will accept, contact the Solid Waste District office at 812-838-1613.
There are a few events coming up in Posey County this weekend.
One event on Saturday in New Harmony will be the 22nd Annual Golden Raintree Antique show and cruise in. There will be vendors located at Riberye Gymnasium on Main Street from 9-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday for the antique show. As for the cruise in, we have still not received any detail on that part of the event yet.
And coming up Saturday evening at Riverbend Park in Mount Vernon will be the next Movies Under The Stars. The movie this Saturday will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. This time it is being sponsored by the Mount Vernon Garden Club. Admission is free. Just bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The movie will start at dark.
In high school sports yesterday, the North Posey Vikings Baseball team punched their ticket to the IHSAA 2A Semi-State tournament. The North Posey Vikings struck first with 2 runs in the 1st inning, when Linton-Stockton punched back with 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Vikings were able to hold Linton to just those 6 runs and work their way back into the game. They scored 2 runs in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th, 5 in the 6th and 5 more in the 7th to take the big win with a final of 15 to 6. North Posey is now 24-5 on the season. They are the number one seed in the 2A bracket per the Indiana Baseball Coaches Association. Junior Kade Buecher had 6 RBIs in the game, which moves his season count to 44. That is good for the most RBI's in the state of Indiana this season. North Posey will face Greencastle in the first game of the semi-state finals on Saturday. The Second game will be between Knightstown and #9 ranked Providence. Game time and locations have not yet been announced.
And for the first time in program history, Evansville Baseball is off to the Sweet 16. Yesterday, the Aces beat 16th ranked East Carolina 6 to 5 in the Regional Final in Greenville, North Carolina. North Posey High School graduate Shane Harris came in and pitched a perfect 9th inning earning the save. UE improves to 38-24 on the year and will now head to Knoxville to square off against the #1 team in College Baseball, the Tennessee Volunteers. It will be a best of three series that starts either Friday or Saturday. The winner of the series will head to Omaha.
