Tonight is another Poseyville Farmer’s Market Night. It will take place from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Community Center which is located at 60 North Church Street in Poseyville. The theme is Fossil Fun Fair, which includes digging and decorating. Kids will have the chance to pan for treasure and keep what they find.

 

Coming up this Saturday there is a Chops and Cheers event at St. Francis Church in Poseyville. Mass starts at 4:30 PM and then at 5:00 PM there will be a meal and music. The planned menu is pork chops, cheesy potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, role, homemade dessert, and drink. They say carry-out will also be available. Live music will be performed by the Schelhorn Band and there will be a Beer Garden as well. This is a 21 years and older only event.

 

A few North Posey and Mt. Vernon student athletes are in the running for the Courier and Press Male High School Athlete of the Year award. Multi-sport athletes were given stronger consideration but was not a requirement. You can vote as often as you would like until 10:00 AM on Friday. There is no physical award that will be given, as this is for pure bragging rights. In the running from North Posey is Jed Galvin and Jackson Graff. Also in consideration for the award is Mt. Vernon’s Nicot Burnett.

North Posey’s Jed Galvin was a two-sport standout in Football and Baseball. He was First Team All-PAC and All-State in Football with 1,828 offensive yards and 29 touchdowns.

North Posey’s Jackson Graff was also a two-sport standout in Football and Basketball. He was All-PAC in Football with 517 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Graff was also First Team All-PAC and All-State Honorable Mention in Basketball, while finishing fourth all-time in scoring in program history.

Mt. Vernon’s Nicot Burnett was a standout in Football and Basketball. He was First Team All-PAC at Quarterback in Football. Burnett was First Team All-PAC in Basketball with 16.1 Points and 4.8 Rebounds per-game. He finished second all-time in scoring in program history.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals won the opening game of their three-game series at home against the Atlanta Braves last night, 4-3. The Cardinals have now won four-straight games to improve to 40-37 on the season. St. Louis and Atlanta continue their series tonight at Busch Stadium at 6:45 PM. Catch the game on 106.7 FM WMVI with the pregame show starting at 5:50 PM.

 

The College Baseball season came to an end last night in Omaha and the Tennessee Volunteers won their first national championship in program history as they topped Texas A&M in the decisive Game 3 of the championship series, 6-5.
