The United Way of Southwestern Indiana is preparing to award four nonprofits in the Tri-State area more than half-a-million dollars in grant funding. Event organizers say they will announce which nonprofits will receive funds during a press conference today. United Way officials say they are looking to address the root causes of poverty through these grants, which they say improve access to behavioral health services, including prevention programs.

 

A restaurant on the west side of Evansville has officially shut its doors for good. Leaders with Fool Moon Grill and Bar posted on Facebook that their last day open was this past Sunday. Initially the plan was to remain open through July 21st, but they said that was not going to be possible due to staffing shortages. The family behind Fool Moon says they are thankful for the last 15 years of serving the community.

 

Coming up this evening, there is another Poseyville Farmer’s Market. It will take place today from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Community Center at 60 North Church Street in Poseyville. Tonight’s theme is Get Crafty with Girl Scouts. Girl Scout Troop 267 will be on hand to help you make your very own free jewelry.

 

The Posey County Solid Waste District posted on Facebook that the July Tox-Away Day will take place this Thursday at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This will be a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals, pesticides, non-latex paint, non-alkaline batteries, etc. For more information, you can contact the district at 812-838-1613.

 

North Posey Football has announced details for their free youth camp coming up later this month. It will be July 29th through the 31st in the evening at the high school football field from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. The camp is for incoming kindergarten through 8th grade students. The St. Louis Cardinals capped off a strong road-trip with a 6-0 win at the Washington Nationals on Monday. The Redbirds went 5-2 on their 7-game road-trip and improve to a season-best six games over 500 at 48-42. Alec Burleson blasted his 14th home run and Paul Goldschmidt cranked his 12th home run of the year in the win. St. Louis returns home tonight to start a brief 2-game set with the Kansas City Royals at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs had Monday off from game action. They pick back up this evening in Baltimore with the first of three against the Orioles at 5:35 PM. The Cubs are 42-49 on the season.

The Cincinnati Reds took the opener of their series at home against the Colorado Rockies last night, 6-0. The Reds snapped a 3-game skid to improve to 43-48. Game two of the series is in Cincy tonight at 6:10 PM.
