Coming up this evening is another Poseyville Farmer’s Market night. The theme tonight is Grillin ‘N Chillin and Diggin. It takes place from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Community Center on 60 North Church Street in Poseyville. They will have a demonstration on how to grill vegetables and you will be able to take home recipes to try it yourself. There will also be free snow cones and kids will have the chance to pan for treasure and keep what they find.
The Mt. Vernon Fireworks on the Ohio is set for this Friday evening at Riverbend Park. The overall event starts at 5:00 PM. There will be live music by Damien Jackson from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Fireworks will begin at dusk. There will be several food vendors that will be there ready to serve before the fireworks. The Eagles, Little Boondocks, Sandy Brown, JT’s, Bodes Snow Cones, Little Jimmy’s Italian Ice, Seasons Creations, and JB Barnyard will all be there.
In Evansville, Fireworks on the Ohio is set for Thursday, July 4, at the Evansville Riverfront. Officials with the Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District say the event will start at 6:00 PM with 25 food trucks opening along Riverside Drive (from Court to Cherry Street). Free activities will be featured at Riverside & Main, including face painting, yard games, a patriotic balloon arch for photo memories, and a special performance by the Boom Squad at 6:30 PM. The grand finale, Fireworks on the Ohio, will happen at dusk, which will be approximately 9:15 PM. It’s a 17-minute show that will happen rain or shine.
The Posey County Solid Waste District posted on Facebook that the July Tox-Away Day will take place on Thursday, July 11th at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This will be a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals, pesticides, non-latex paint, non-alkaline batteries, etc. For more information, you can contact the district at 812-838-1613.
The St. Louis Cardinals enjoyed Monday off from game action and pick back up tonight in Pittsburgh against the Pirates at 5:40 PM. The Redbirds are coming off a 10-game homestand in which they went 7-3. St. Louis is 43-40 on the season.
The Chicago Cubs were also off last night and resume play this evening at home against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 PM. The Cubs have lost 7 of their last 10 games as they are 39-46 on the year.
The Cincinnati Reds were another team that did not play Monday evening. Cincy is in New York tonight to face the Yankees at 6:05 PM. The Reds have a record of 39-45.
