Family Matters of Posey County is having a Back to School Backpack giveaway today at the Hedges Central Gymnasium. They ask that you call to schedule an appointment for your pickup at the facility. To get your appointment scheduled, call 812-838-6875. Pickups will take place today as scheduled by your appointment time. They ask that you enter through door 11 at Hedges Central. There is another edition of the Poseyville Farmers Market taking place today at the community center from 4 to 7. This week the theme is “Books & Bubble”. Readers from the Poseyville Carnegie Library will be reading to the kids and they will receive a free bottle of bubbles following the reading. There will be a chance to win $25 by visiting all of the vendors and the food truck will be “Papa Bears Catering”. The community center is located at 60 North Church Street in Poseyville.
Harmonie State Park will be hosting a back to school bash on Saturday at the park. Activities for the kids include games with prizes, foam machine, sensory activities, sprinklers, inflatables and free goodie bags and food. The bash will take place from 3 to 7 coming up this Saturday the 27th and standard gates fees do apply to get into the park. Those fees are $7 for in-state vehicles and $9 for out of state.
The Mount Vernon Soccer Boosters will be hosting a pool party and movie night coming up this Friday at Brittlebank Pool. The event will take place from 6 to 10 on Friday night. There will be a $5 gate entry fee for the swim party. All concession proceeds will benefit the Mount Vernon Youth Soccer Programs. The movie night will begin at 8:15 and admission for that is free of charge.
Coming up Saturday morning, the Posey County Historical Society will be offering tours of the Posey County Courthouse. This event is open to all members of the public and will take place on Saturday morning starting at 10AM.
The Mount Vernon Be The Best Athlete You Can Be camp is coming up next Tuesday at the Wildcat Athletic Complex. This camp is being offered for 2nd through 5th graders free of charge. It is a coed agility camp being led by students of Mount Vernon High School including junior Brady Schickel the creator of the camp. The camp will begin with the 2nd graders at 8:00 on Tuesday morning and end with the 5th graders at 12:45. To see the time slots for all of the grades, visit mvwildcats.org.
The North Posey Youth Football camp is approaching next week as well. The camp will be Monday through Wednesday of next week from 6-7:30 in the evening. It is open to kids from kindergarten through 8th grades and will take place at Joe Gengelbach Field and is free. To get your kid signed up for the camp, visit the North Posey Football Facebook page.
The Relay For Life of North Posey 5K run and walk is coming up on Saturday August 17th at Murphy Park in New Harmony. Registration will be from 6:30 – 7:30, a kids dash at 7:45 and the race / walk to start at 8:00. All proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life of North Posey and the American Cancer Society.
