United Way of Posey County is partnering with Willow Tree of Posey County to bring much needed housing for individuals affected by family violence to Posey County. United Way of Posey County fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in Posey County, including those affected by family violence. As part of its ongoing assessment of critical community needs, United Way of Posey County and its community partners identified a significant gap in providing secure, local shelter to individuals escaping family violence. Until now, these individuals have had to seek shelter in Evansville. Funded by a $55,000 IN22 Matching Grant from Indiana United Ways, and in collaboration with Willow Tree of Posey County, United Way of Posey County is guiding development and expansion of a donated duplex for families and construction of a new efficiency apartment for individuals impacted by family violence. NEWLIFE Rescue & Adoption recently received a $3,000 grant from the Posey County Community Foundation through the Celebrating 30 Years of Giving Grant Program. In celebration of Posey County Community Foundation’s 30th Anniversary, the Celebrating 30 Years of Giving Grant Program allows advisory board members to recommend $3,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s most recent grant recommendation was made by Joy Millay. NEWLIFE Rescue Adoption was formed In April 2022, when the Posey Humane Society and PC Pound Puppies merged. NEWLIFE Rescue and Adoption believes all companion animals in Posey County, deserve loving homes and humane treatment. The organization works to ensure their needs are met, including appropriate shelter, food, water, and medical care. Applications are still open for veteran families in Indiana who may be in need of financial help getting back-to-school supplies. The Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs is inviting Hoosier veteran families to apply for the Military Family Relief Fund's Operation Back to School Program. The program is designed to help veterans and their families with essential school expenses for their kids by giving $500 per child. Applications are open from now to August 31st.

North Posey Football will host a Free Youth Football camp July 24th - July 27th from 6:00-7:30 PM at the high school. Sign-ups start today. Each camper will receive a free Viking football t-shirt as well as 4 days of instruction from our high school kids and coaches.

 

An opening ceremony for the 2023 USSSA Great Lakes National Softball Championships was held Monday in Vanderburgh County. The ceremony kicked off at 3:00 PM at Garvin Park and Deaconess Aquatic Center. Teams are arriving and celebrating with music, swimming and pin trading. The tournament begins today and runs through Saturday at Deaconess Sports Park, Newburgh Girls Softball Complex and Newman Park Complex in Henderson. Officials say there are 175 teams participating from across the country. The event is expected to generate more than $2 million in economic impact for Evansville and surrounding areas.
