The Ascension St. Vincent mobile dental clinic will be onsite at Mt. Vernon Junior and Senior High School on Thursday, January 18th. Heads up for high school students looking for a summer job, as Red Cross Lifeguarding Classes will start next month. You must be at least 15 years of age and classes start on Wednesday February 21st. Classes will be held at the Mt. Vernon Junior High School pool. In addition, you must complete approximately 5-6 hours of online work. The cost for the classes is 135 dollars and checks are payable to Mt. Vernon High School. A swearing-in ceremony was held for the next mayor of Evansville on Monday. Stephanie Terry was sworn in as the River City's next mayor on Monday during the noon ceremony at Bosse High School, her alma mater. Terry made history on Monday, as the city's first female mayor and African American mayor. Terry detailed her plans to inspire and support youth through education, work to make neighborhoods safer, create access to public transit, and improve roads, crime rates and drinking water. Alongside her were several city leaders also swearing into their roles, eager to get to work. Terry’s administration is expected to release their plan for the first 100 days in office on Wednesday. After Monday's swearing-in ceremony, an inaugural ball is also scheduled to take place at the Old National Events Plaza on January 19th.

 

Sports from Monday night…in the NBA, the Indiana Pacers won their 4th-straight game as they beat the Milwaukee Bucks on the road, 122-113. The Pacers outscored the Bucks in the 4th quarter, 38-25. For Indiana, Tyrese Haliburton had 26 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds. Bennedict Mathurin poured in 25 points off the bench and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Pacers improve to 18-14 and will be at home tomorrow night to face the Milwaukee Bucks again.

 

Coming up this evening in local high school sports action…Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball travels to Gibson Southern for a 7:00 PM tipoff. The Wildcats are 2-13 on the season.

Also, in action tonight, North Posey Girls Basketball heads to Wood Memorial for a 6:30 PM start. The Vikings sit at 4-10 on the year.

In Men’s College Basketball this evening…#1 Purdue plays at Maryland at 6:00 PM. The Boilermakers are 12-1 on the season. #9 Illinois plays host to Northwestern at 8:00 PM. The Fighting Illini have a record of 10-2.
