Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball lost at Forest Park, 59-43. The Wildcats slip to 5-5 overall. They will be home on Friday against Southridge.
North Posey Girls Basketball earned a 60-44 win at Evansville Christian. The Vikings improve their record to 9-5. North Posey Girls Basketball plays again tonight at home against Heritage Hills. The JV game begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game will tip at 7:00 PM. You can listen to the Varsity game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball hits the road this evening for a Varsity only contest at Tecumseh at 6:00 PM. The Wildcats haven’t played a game since December 27th. They are looking for their first win of the year as they are 0-14.
This week is National College Financial Prep Week and the Posey County Community Foundation has several scholarships available online at https://www.poseycountycf.org/scholarships. The deadline to register is Monday, January 20th.
Last night, the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation announced that their superintendent David Smith is retiring. This will be effective on July 1st of this year. This school year marked Smith’s 43rd year with the EVSC and his 14th year as the superintendent.
Ivy Tech Community College is offering a free 12-week Citizenship Prep Class that began Monday night. According to a release, this program is open to legal permanent residents who are ready to pursue U.S. citizenship. They say the course will cover various portions of the citizenship test and hold practice interviews. A local network of volunteers dedicated to helping the lives of immigrants, is said to be offering this course at the community college. The class is held at 6:00 PM on Monday’s.
Coming up tonight in local college sports…Evansville Men’s Basketball is on the road at Northern Iowa for a 6:00 PM tipoff. The Purple Aces are 6-11 on the year and 3-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Indiana Men’s Basketball welcomes 19th ranked Illinois to Bloomington this evening at 6:00 PM. The Hoosiers have a record of 13-4 and 4-2 in the Big 10. The Fighting Illini sit at 12-4 and 4-2 in the conference.
8th ranked Kentucky is home for a big showdown with 11th ranked Texas A&M at 6:00 PM. The Cats are 13-3 and 2-1 in the SEC.
In the NBA tonight…the Indiana Pacers return home and take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have won 6-straight games and are 22-18 on the season.
