The Town of Poseyville announced last Friday that the Poseyville Community Center would open in the event of prolonged power outages for those needing a warm place to stay over this cold period.
With these cold temperatures, the Evansville Rescue Mission says they’re taking in more people than usual. Officials with the shelter say they have had to make adjustments in preparing food for the people that are coming in. They tell us right now it’s just too dangerous for people to be out in the cold. Executive Director Kyle Gorman says they haven’t seen these numbers in years. The Evansville Rescue Mission is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM for those that are in need.
The cold temperatures in the Tri-State can impact your home’s plumbing. Experts say make sure your pipes are well insulated, you can put heating tape on them to keep them warm or you can put insulated covers on your outdoor faucets to prevent freezing. Another way to avoid frozen pipes is to keep your faucets on a small drip to create a circulation of water and open your cabinets to let in heat from your home.
