The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, or IURC, has approved a rate increase proposed by CenterPoint Energy. After more than a year, the IURC voted to approve the rate hike on Monday. The rate increase was unanimously approved. CenterPoint Energy asked for the base rate adjustment in December 2023, and said it was the first request with the IURC since 2009. It's not clear at this time how much bills will be affected for the average residential customer.

 

The University of Southern Indiana International Club and Center for International Programs is hosting their annual International Food Expo this month. According to a press release, the event will take place on February 14th in Carter Hall from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The food expo is an opportunity for USI’s international students to showcase their home countries’ cultural diversity, customs and cuisine to both the USI community and public. Officials say the event will feature many main dishes and desserts from around the world. There will also be entertainment provided that includes dances, musical performances and a fashion show highlighting traditional cultural attire. Tickets can be purchased on the Food Expo website and are $15 for non-USI students, faculty, staff and community members and $10 for USI students. Officials say a limited number of tickets can be purchased the day of the event.

 

The Posey County Health Department will soon be offering a new resource to the community. Starting on March 4th, PCHD will be hosting free community clinics on the first and third Tuesday of every month. The clinics will take place at MSD of North Posey's Ascension St. Vincent Tri-State Clinic, located at 4922 Hwy 165 in Poseyville, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. During the free clinics, different services will be offered including immunizations, vital sign checks, glucose monitoring, lice treatment kits, and various other testing as needed (lead, STD, TB).

 

High School Girls Basketball Sectionals get underway tonight across the state of Indiana. Here in Posey County, North Posey Girls Basketball will begin postseason play tomorrow night at 5:30 PM in the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Forest Park High School. Their first-round opponent will be Mater Dei. The Lady Vikings went 16-6 in the regular season.

Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball will play on Friday night in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Central High School. The Lady Wildcats received a first-round bye. They will play the winner of Boonville and Central at 7:00 PM Friday evening.

 

Coming up tonight in Men’s College Basketball…the Indiana Hoosiers play at #21 Wisconsin at 8:00 PM. The Hoosiers have lost 3-straight games and are 14-8 on the year and 5-6 in the Big 10.

#7 Purdue is on the road to play Iowa at 6:00 PM. The Boilermakers sit at 17-5 and 9-2 in the Big 10.

#14 Kentucky ventures to play #25 Ole Miss at 6:00 PM. The Cats have a record of 15-6 and 4-4 in the SEC.
