The Board of Directors of Youth First, Inc. has named Holli Sullivan as the new President & CEO. Sullivan will assume her new role beginning May 12 and succeed Parri Black, who retires from Youth First in May after 21 years of leadership. Sullivan joined the Youth First Board of Directors in 2023 and has been an advocate of Youth First’s work for over a decade. Youth First began in 1998. Founder Dr. Bill Wooten’s dream was to strengthen youth and families, and today Youth First has grown into one of Indiana’s largest nonprofits with a mission of promoting mental health, preventing substance misuse, and maximizing school success. The agency has over 130 employees. Youth First’s programs and services are available to over 53,000 students in 126 partner schools across 14 Indiana counties. Sullivan served as Indiana State Representative from 2014-2021 and Indiana Secretary of State from 2021-2022.

 

Indiana's second positive case of chronic wasting disease, also known as 'zombie deer' disease, has been confirmed in a deer in Posey County. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the case was found in a white-tailed deer in Posey County. CWD has been detected in wild deer in 36 states, including all states bordering Indiana. It's a neurological disease that affects deer, resulting in their eventual death. During the 2025-2026 deer hunting season, the DNR says its surveillance efforts will be enhanced in Posey County, and the surrounding counties, to determine the extent of disease in the area. University of Evansville Men’s Basketball Junior Tayshawn Comer has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. This marks the first Newcomer of the Week award for the Indianapolis native. Comer averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game in two contests for the Purple Aces over the last week and opened the week with 21 points, 5 boards and 5 assists in the win at Indiana State. Evansville has two games remaining in the regular season and will play their final home tomorrow night against Drake at 7:00 PM. The Aces are 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference and tied for 7th place with Murray State.

 

From the NBA last night…the Indiana Pacers had their 3-game winning streak come to end with a 125-116 loss at home against the Denver Nuggets. Myles Turner scored 23 points and Tyrese Haliburton delivered 19 points and 16 assists in the loss for Indiana. The Pacers are now 32-24 and will be at home tomorrow evening to take on the Toronto Raptors.

 

This week is the final week of the High School Boys Basketball regular season, before postseason play begins next week across the state of Indiana. Mt. Vernon will finish up their regular season schedule with two games this week. They will play at Mater Dei tomorrow and at South Spencer on Thursday. The Wildcats are 11-11 on the season.

North Posey Basketball will finish their regular season with one game this week and it is on Thursday at Gibson Southern. The Vikings are 11-10.
