Firefighters in Posey County are sharpening their life-saving skills by practicing extrication drills. Black Township Fire & Rescue shared photos on social media of their training. Officials said on Facebook that in the training, cadets learned about vehicle extrication and techniques on how to safely and properly gain access to rescue a patient or multiple patients. The fire agency encourages you to reach out if you know anyone aged 14 to 17 interested in joining or learning about the fire service industry.
There are a couple of Blood Drives taking place in Mt. Vernon this week. One of those drives is today at the Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The address is 1415 Country Cub Road in Mt. Vernon. Today’s drive lasts from 7:30 AM until 1:30 PM.
Then on Friday, First United Methodist Church will be hosting a Blood Drive. They are located at 601 Main Street in Mt. Vernon. Friday’s drive will be from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
North Posey Boys Basketball returns to action tonight as they head to Mt. Carmel. The JV game is set for 5:30 PM and the Varsity game will follow around 7:00 PM. The Vikings are 9-8 overall. You can follow tonight’s game on the radio on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball hits the road to play Memorial this evening. The JV game begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game with tip around 7:00 PM. The Wildcats have a record of 9-9. Tonight’s contest can be heard on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Over the weekend, the North Posey Girls Basketball team won the Class 2A Sectional 48 hosted by Forest Park High School. The Lady Vikings defeated Perry Central in the championship game on Saturday, 52-28. They will now play in the Regional on Saturday at West Washington High School. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM Central Time. North Posey is 19-6 on the year and Brownstown Central is 21-5.
Coming up tonight in Men’s College Basketball…the Indiana Hoosiers play at #11 Michigan State at 8:00 PM. The Hoosiers are hoping to end a 5-game losing streak as they sit at 14-10 and 5-8 in the Big 10.
#7 Purdue head to #20 Michigan for a 6:00 PM tipoff. The Boilermakers are currently in first place in the Big 10 with an 11-2 conference record and they are 19-5 overall. Purdue has won 4-straight games and 11-of-12.
#15 Kentucky welcomes #5 Tennessee at 6:00 PM. The Cats are 16-7 on the season and 5-5 in the SEC.
Illinois plays host to UCLA at 7:00 PM. The Fighting Illini are 16-8 and 8-6 in the Big 10.
In the NBA this evening…the Indiana Pacers return home after a 4-game west-coast road trip to square off with the New York Knicks at 6:30 PM. The Pacers are in 4th place in the Eastern Conference Standings with a 29-22 record.
