The mayor’s office in Mt. Vernon is gauging public interest in adding a public skatepark. The city shared an online survey to get input as to what the community might like to see in a potential skate park. Hunger Skateparks would be designing the park, if one was going to be built. They are the same company that designed Sunset Skate Park in Evansville. The last day to give feedback is September 13th.

 

Tonight is the final Poseyville Farmers Market at the Poseyville Community Center. It will last from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. This evening’s theme is Closing Market. There will be free cotton candy and popcorn. There will also be a kid’s zone which will have barrel train rides. At 5:30 PM tonight a watermelon eating contest will take place. Tonight’s Food Truck at the Market is Pappa Bear’s Catering.

 

Tomorrow evening at the Poseyville Community Center, it’s the annual Town Hall Meeting. It will start at 6:00 PM. It’s a chance for the community to engage in meaningful discussions about economic development, share ideas to help shape the town’s future, and collaborate with fellow community members, leaders, and experts. This is free and open to the public. The Poseyville Community Center is located at 60 North Church Steet in Poseyville.

 

Yesterday, the University of Southern Indiana hosted a ribbon cutting for a renovated wellness center. The $16 million Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center was unveiled Monday as USI employees, students and the community gathered. After the ribbon cutting, people were able to see inside the new facility. The facility is located behind Screaming Eagles Arena across from Rice Library and is now open for students to use.

 

The proposed CenterPoint rate hike process will take another step forward when hearings start. CenterPoint and the OUCC will cross examine each other’s witnesses on September 3rd. The OUCC is the group that represents the consumer in cases like this. CenterPoint is asking for a $35-$50 a month increase in customers’ bills. The IURC, the group overseeing the case, is expected to decide on the rate hike early next year.

 

Sports: 

Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball suffered a 4-set loss at Harrison. They lost the 1st set 25-20, 2nd set 25-22, won the 3rd set 25-21, but lost the 4th set 27-25. Wildcats Volleyball now has a record of 1-3.

Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer beat Pike Central at home, 2-1. The Wildcats improve to 3-3 on the year.

North Posey Girls Soccer suffered a 2-0 loss at home against Gibson Southern. The Lady Vikings slip to 1-2 on the season.

North Posey Boys Soccer got tripped up at home by Gibson Southern, 3-2. The Vikings are now 0-2 on the year.

 

Coming up tonight in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball welcomes Central. The JV match is set for 6:00 PM and the Varsity match will follow around 7:30 PM. Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer plays host to Princeton at 5:30 PM. Wildcats Boys Tennis is home taking on Southridge at 5:00 PM. Mt. Vernon Girls Golf plays at Boonville at 4:30 PM.

North Posey Volleyball is home against Bosse this evening. The JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match will start around 7:00 PM. North Posey Girls Soccer hits the road to face South Spencer at 5:30 PM. Vikings Boys Tennis squares off against Bosse at home at 4:00 PM.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals dropped the opener of a 4-game series at home vs the San Diego Padres, 7-4. The Cardinals dip back below .500 at 65-66. Game 2 of the series is in St. Louis tonight at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs started their series in Pittsburgh off with a bang as they thumped the Pirates, 18-8. The Cubs move back to .500 on the year at 66-66. Game 2 of the series is tonight at 5:40 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds enjoyed Monday evening off. They sit at 63-68 on the season. The Reds begin a 3-game series at home tonight against the Oakland Athletics at 5:40 PM.
