Indiana Department of Transportation crews are expected to begin a pothole patching operation on the Lloyd Expressway this week. According to a press release, patching will begin today and continue through tomorrow. Crews will start near Posey County Line Road and work east towards Rosenberger Avenue. Significant delays are expected during the morning commute today and tomorrow. Officials say work is expected to begin at 4:00 AM and will conclude on or after 2:00 PM each day.

 

The Indiana Historical Society (IHS) has announced that a new Indiana county historian has been appointed in Posey County. The new historian is Stanley Campbell, and he recently retired from the Alexandrian Public Library after 17 years of service as Head of Community Relations. His duties included coordinating all aspects relating to public relations, providing publicity and promotion of the library, library programming and special events. Officials say Campbell serves on the Posey County Historical Society board and volunteers at its museum. He is also a member of the New Harmony Working Men’s Institute board. He continues to teach art programs at the Alexandrian Public Library and he specializes in creating pen and ink drawings of Posey County buildings as well as antique farm tractors and cars. According to the IHS, county historians serve as volunteers appointed by the IHS and Indiana Historical Bureau to promote local history in their counties, connect individuals and groups with history resources, promote collaboration between local history organizations and maintain connections with the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Historical Bureau.

 

Posey County Council on Aging says they are hiring for a few positions that are part-time and flexible. They are currently seeking to fill the positions of Driver and Homemaker. You must be at least 21 years old, pass a criminal background check, and pass a drug screen. For the Driver position, you must also have a clear motor vehicle report and have, and be willing to obtain a ‘For Hire’ endorsement. All positions have a starting pay of $10.00 per-hour, are part-time, and have flexile days and hours. Mt. Vernon Volleyball says that sign-ups for their Youth Camp and Skills Camp are now open. The Youth Camp is for incoming 1st-8th graders and the Skills Camp is for incoming 5th-8th graders. They say to sign up prior to May 21st to ensure your camper receives a volleyball and camp shirt.

 

Posey County Emergency Management says that as the flood waters recede, they are still taking damage reports to any homes that were affected by the flooding, or any of the storms that we have had in the last few weeks. You should report any and all storm damage to Posey County Emergency Management at 812-838-1319, or 812-838-1333. Even if your home is insured and damages are covered the reports help them keep a total count of all damage in the county.

 

Last night Mt. Vernon Baseball lost at home to Reitz, 6-2. Wildcats Baseball falls to 1-7 on the year. They play again this evening at Forest Park at 5:30 PM.

Also coming up tonight in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball travels to Tecumseh at 4:30 PM.

From Major League Baseball on Monday…the St. Louis Cardinals lost the opening game of their 3-game series in Atlanta against the Braves, 7-6. The Cardinals have now lost 5-straight games as they dive to a 9-14 mark on the season. Game 2 of their series at the Braves is tonight at 6:15 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds got beat in their series opener at the Miami Marlins, 6-3. The Reds are now 11-12 overall. They continue their 3-game set in Miami this evening at 5:40 PM.

The Chicago Cubs were off yesterday, but they pick back up tonight with the first game of a brief 2-game set at home with the Los Angeles Dodgers at 6:40 PM. The Cubs sit at 14-10.

 

In the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers play Game 2 of their First Round Series with the Milwaukee Bucks at 6:00 PM. Tonight’s game is in Indianapolis. The Pacers lead the Best-of-Seven First Round Series, 1-0…after they won Game 1 on Saturday, 117-98.
