Posey County deputies are investigating a moped crash that killed one person. Authorities say 71-year-old Cane Thompson died after his moped ran off the road into a ditch on County Line Road just north of State Road 62 on Saturday afternoon. According to deputies, a lady was passing by and saw Thompson lying in the ditch just after 2:00 PM. Investigators say they didn’t see any marks on the road and there was little damage to the moped. The Sheriff’s Office says Thompson died Sunday due to blunt force trauma. They are currently waiting on toxicology results.

 

The City of Mt. Vernon is encouraging the community to download the new Mt. Vernon Connect App. It’s available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. To find the app, just search “Mt. Vernon Connect.” This app allows the community to access information, view the latest updates, receive notifications, and more.

 

Burdette Park is back open after a temporary closure caused by flooding. Last week, Burdette Park had to close as the park and surrounding areas were experiencing severe flooding. While the park has resumed general operations, officials say a few temporary adjustments remain in place to ensure guest safety. At this time, the main entrance and exit to the park remain closed due to lingering floodwaters. All visitors are asked to enter the park via the Discovery Lodge entrance until further notice. Additionally, the Anchor Playground will remain closed until further notice. Guests who have upcoming events scheduled and are concerned about potential impacts from the recent flooding are encouraged to contact the Burdette Park office at 812-435-5602 for information and assistance.

 

Olive Garden is now open on the west side of Evansville. It’s at the corner of Red Bank Road and Pearl Drive, just off the Lloyd Expressway. It’s in the old O’Charley’s building, which closed in 2023. It’s the second Olive Garden in the city. The other is on Green River Road.

 

Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball lost a tough one at North, 11-10 in 10 innings.

Mt. Vernon Baseball got beat at home by Carmi, 7-5.

North Posey Softball defeated Mt. Vernon on the road, 17-6 in 5 innings.

 

Coming up this evening in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball plays at Heritage Hills at 5:00 PM.

North Posey Softball welcomes South Knox at 5:30 PM.

Mt. Vernon Baseball hosts the Washington Hatchets at  5:00 PM.

 

In Major League Baseball on Monday…the St. Louis Cardinals won the opening game of their 3-game series at home with the Houston Astros, 8-3. The Cardinals have now won 3 of their last 4 games to get back to 500 on the year at 8-8. Nolan Arenado went 3-for-4 with a home run and Sonny Gray pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits. Game 2 of the series is tonight in St. Louis at 6:45 PM.
