The University of Southern Indiana is getting a facelift that also aims to advance education for a critical career. Major renovations are happening on the Health Professions Building, which houses the Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions, right at the front of USI's campus. The renovation will add 48,000 square feet of additional classroom space, updated labs, and state-of-the-art equipment for growing healthcare programs. USI officials say funding comes from the Indiana General Assembly’s capital funding appropriation for USI, approved during the 2023 legislative session. Officials say this is the final phase of a larger renovation project that’s been underway since 2018. With this renovation, students will see a brand-new interactive auditorium, eight new nursing skills labs with the latest technology that will simulate a hospital setting, two new labs for respiratory therapy that will allow students to practice critical procedures like ventilator management and cardiopulmonary assessments, and two new occupational therapy classrooms with advanced equipment and adaptive tools. According to USI, multi-functional student dining and study spaces will also be on the first floor. The project is expected to be completed by late summer or early fall of 2026.
