CenterPoint Energy is encouraging customers in its Indiana South natural gas territory to prepare for an increase in their natural gas bills this winter season. Officials say customers benefited last year from lower wholesale natural gas prices due to a less chaotic natural gas market. According to a press release, this year’s natural gas costs are projected to increase over last year’s heating season as the demand in natural gas continues to grow. CenterPoint Energy officials say customers can expect to pay on average $129 a month over the 5-month period from November to March.

 

Family Matters of Posey County is reminding the community that the deadline to register your children for the Posey County Christmas Assistance Program is tomorrow at 2:00 PM. Applications are available at Family Matters, Township Trustee Offices, and many County Churches.

 

The Alexandrian Public Library in Mt. Vernon has announced a Halloween event called “Boo Bash” next Friday, October 18th from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. Registration is required. They say that the doors for the event will open at 5:50 PM and there will be games, photos, refreshments, treat bags, and more. They encourage you to come dressed in a costume.

 

Sports: 

Last night in Boys Soccer Sectional action, North Posey came up short against Wood Memorial in the 2nd round. A 1-1 tie sent the match into penalty kicks and the Vikings lost the penalty kicks, 5-4. North Posey’s season ends with a 7-10 record.

Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer saw their season come to an end with a 2nd round loss to Heritage Hills last night, 4-0. The Wildcats finished with a record of 3-14.

 

Coming up this evening in Girls Soccer Sectional action, Mt. Vernon plays Boonville in the 2nd round at 7:00 PM at the EVSC Soccer Fields. The Lady Wildcats won their 1st round match on Tuesday against Bosse, 9-1 and have an overall record of 7-9.

North Posey Girls Soccer squares off against Evansville Christian tonight at 6:00 PM in the 2nd round of the South Spencer Sectional. The Lady Vikings are 9-6 on the year after they beat Wood Memorial 5-0 on Tuesday in the 1st round of Sectionals.

 

Mt. Vernon Volleyball welcomes North this evening for a 6:00 PM JV Match and a 7:30 PM Varsity Match.

 

Tomorrow night is Week 8 of the High School Football regular season, and the 6-1 North Posey Vikings will hit the road for a big PAC showdown at Southridge. The Raiders sit at 5-2 on the year. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast tomorrow on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. The pregame show is at 6:15 PM and the kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.

The 4-3 Mt. Vernon Wildcats play at Gibson Southern tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM. The Titans have a record of 5-2. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have radio coverage on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. The pregame show will get underway at 6:15 PM and the kickoff is at 6:30 PM.

Earlier this week the updated Indiana High School Football Coaches Association Rankings were released. In Class 2A, the North Posey Vikings are ranked 6th. In Class 5A, Castle sits at 4th. In Class 4A, Reitz dropped to 13th. Class 3A has Memorial 1st, Heritage Hills 2nd, Mater Dei 3rd, Gibson Southern 5th, and Southridge is 10th.
