North Posey High School says they are hosting a blood drive today from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Any student over the age of 16 can sign up in the office. Students under the age of 18 must get a permission slip signed and turned in before donating. Students can sign up in the North Posey High School office.

 

Both Mount Vernon and North Posey will have some entertainment to enjoy starting today. The Mount Vernon Performing Arts will be presenting Anastasia coming up tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM all nights. They will also have a 2:00 PM showing on Saturday. Adult tickets are available for $12 and student tickets for $8. And The North Posey Theater Department is presenting Legally Blonde the Musical as well. That will take place tonight, Friday and Saturday as well at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Mount Vernon Fire Department is taking applications for new firefighters. Starting pay is listed at $59,476 with a $2,100 increase after the first year probationary period. Benefits include holiday pay, sick days, personal days, vacation days, a $1,000 yearly clothing allowance, Health, Dental and Vision Insurance, Life Insurance and Membership In State Retirement. They ask anyone interested pickup an application at the fire department at 311 College Avenue. Applications will not be accepted after 4PM on April 30th.

  

Family Matters of Posey County announced on Tuesday that they are planning to have another food distribution event on Tuesday April 1st. Plans are still in the works, but the event is scheduled to take place from 10AM until noon. Volunteers are needed to help with the event. The city of Mount Vernon will be having a heavy trash pickup day coming up at the end of the month. Items that will be collected include indoor and outdoor furniture, refrigerators and freezers in which the refrigerant has been removed and tagged by a professional. They ask that the items be placed where your trash containers would normally be and that the items be put out on the scheduled pickup dates and no more than 24 hours before your scheduled pickup. Coming up tomorrow, the Knights of St. John is hosting their annual Fish Fry in St. Wendel. Dinner will be served from 5:00-7:00 PM and there will be dine-in and drive-thru options. The menu consists of Fried Fish, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Cornbread, and Drinks. The cost is 6 dollars for children and 13 dollars for adults. After the dinner portion, music and dancing is from 7:00-11:00 PM.

 

The Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament tips off this afternoon at Ford Center in downtown Evansville. There are four First-Round games today, four Quarterfinal games on Friday, two Semi-Final games on Saturday, and the Championship game is played on Sunday. This evening, the Evansville Purple Aces Women’s Basketball team will play their First-Round game at 6:00 PM against Illinois Chicago in the 7/10 matchup. The Flames are the 7 seed, and the Aces are the 10 seed.
