Posey County officials say a Mount Vernon man will serve time in prison after being convicted of multiple drug charges. According to a press release, 42-year-old Joshua Walden has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges that include dealing meth, possession of meth, and maintaining a common nuisance. Officials say as part of Walden’s plea, he admitted to delivering meth to an informant at his place of business in Posey County in April of 2023. Walden and 21 other drug offenders were identified and apprehended as a result of the undercover drug investigation called “Operation Last Dance” in June of 2022. The press release states Walden was arrested when the drug raid was conducted by local law enforcement on May 25th, 2023. Court records show that Walden posted bond on two separate occasions since his arrest, but his bond was subsequently increased and arrest warrants issued due to Walden violating the conditions of his bond. Walden will be transported to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve his sentence.

 

North Posey High School and University of Evansville graduate, Shane Harris has signed a contract to pitch for the Evansville Otters. Harris just finished up his final year with the Purple Aces and was a key arm in their rotation as well as out of their bullpen. The right-handed pitcher made 27 appearances for UE this year and posted a career-best 3.82 ERA. Harris struck out 72 batters over 75.1 innings of work. He earned the save in the Regional final game at East Carolina and in the Aces lone win against #1 Tennessee in the Super Regional in Knoxville.

 

There is a new Community Garden in Mt. Vernon. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department along with help from the community created the garden at the Posey County Council on Aging. The produce is free to anyone in the community. You pick it, you keep it. The fruit, vegetables, and herbs are free to the community.

 

Coming up this Saturday at Harmonie State Park is the Hot Rods at Harmonie event. Registration is from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM. Prizes will be awarded at 1:30 PM. There will be food and drinks available for purchase. There is no registration fee for cars, but the park entrance fee applies to all. It’s 7 dollars for Indiana plated vehicles and 9 dollars for out-of-sate vehicles. All cars, motorcycles, trucks, and SUV’s are welcome.

 

Ellis Park is making some changes to the upcoming horse racing season. First, they changed the days when the live races happen. It will now be from Saturday through Monday, with the exception of opening weekend. That’s happening Thursday, July 4th. Officials also say several projects are in the works, including renovating the stands and roof. There will be several special events happening during the summer season, including Weiner Dog Racing and Teacher Appreciation Day. The race season runs through August 26th.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals got beat in Miami yesterday by the Marlins, 4-3. The Redbirds dropped 2-of-3 in the series and fell to 36-37 on the year. The Cardinals start a 3-game series against the San Francisco Giants tonight at 6:15 PM. Tonight’s game is played at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The other two games of the series will be in St. Louis on Saturday and Sunday.

The Chicago Cubs edged the San Francisco Giants at home on Wednesday, 6-5. The Cubs took 2-of-3 in the series and improved to 36-39 on the season. Chicago is off today before starting a 3-game series at home on Friday against the New York Mets.

The Cincinnati Reds lost a pitcher’s duel in Pittsburgh against the Pirates, 1-0. The Reds slip to 35-39 on the year. Cincy is also off today and will begin a series at home on Friday against the Boston Red Sox.
