North Posey Softball (26-0) is getting set for Semi-State this weekend. The Vikings will play in the Semi-State on Saturday against Cascade at 11:30 AM. Forest Park High School is the host of the Semi-State, but their softball field is located at Cedar Crest Intermediate School. You will be able to hear the game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast.

 

If you bought a Powerball ticket on the west side of Evansville recently, you may want to check your numbers. Officials with Hoosier Lottery say that a $1 million winning Powerball ticket was purchased at the Thorntons gas station at 114 S. Rosenberger Ave. in Evansville. The ticket matched all five numbers in Wednesday night's drawing, missing only the Powerball. The winning numbers for Wednesday's drawing are: 2-4-54-61-62 with the Powerball of 14. The ticket holder should ensure their ticket is in a secure place, consider meeting with a financial advisor and contact Hoosier Lottery customer service at 1-800-955-6886 for specific claim instructions.

 

The Posey County Solid Waste District announced that today is the next monthly Tox-Away Day at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center. It will last from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. It’s a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals, and non-alkaline batteries. For more information, you can call 812-838-1613.

 

Carter’s Sauces posted on Facebook that the deadline for the 1st Annual Smoke Poseyville Event is today. The event itself will take place on Saturday, June 17th at the Poseyville Community Center. Funds raised will go towards growing community events that focus on enhancing the childhood experience in and around Poseyville. Family Matters of Posey County is inviting all golfers to their 5th Annual Golf Scramble on Friday, June 16th. It will be held at the Western Hills Country Club. The cost is 60 dollars per person, or 240 dollars per team. To register, call 812-838-6875.

 

Purdue Basketball fans received some exciting news last night, as their big man and college basketball player of the year, Zach Edey announced he would be back for another season. Edey had entered his name in the NBA Draft and was projected to be a second-round pick. His return to Purdue, will bolster what is expected to again be one of the nation’s top teams. With Edey sweeping every postseason award he was eligible for, the only thing left to accomplish comes the NCAA Tournament. Purdue has bowed out in the first round twice in Edey’s three season, with a trip to the Sweet 16 sandwiched between. The Boilermakers won the Big Ten regular season and tournament championship last season. Edey averaged 22.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, and shot 60.7% from the field.

 

Churchill Downs officials say they will not be moving an Ellis Park extension into the Owensboro Towne Square Mall. Churchill Downs officials say that they’ve shifted plans and are still evaluating new locations that can better enable them to create the entertainment destination they want for residents. Officials say they originally announced the plans last year after deciding to purchase Ellis Park as a whole.

 

The City of Evansville is getting ready to open up its pools to the public for the summer season. The Parks Department will be opening up Hartke Pool, Helfrich Pool, Lorraine Pool, Mosby Pool, and Rochelle-Landers Pool starting on Saturday, June 3. Each pool will have its own hours and pricing. All city pools are closed on Mondays. Mosby (Howell) and Rochelle-Landers pools will be open Tuesday through Sunday, and Lorraine Pool will be open Tuesday through Friday. As for Helfrich Pool, it will be open daily, but for swim team practice only. You can find individual pool hours, admission, features, swim team, and rental information by visiting the City of Evansville's website. 

 

Sports Tonight: 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (25-32) are off this evening. The Redbirds start a 3-game series in Pittsburgh tomorrow night against the Pirates.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (24-31) are also off tonight. They head out west to San Diego to play the Padres tomorrow evening.   

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (26-29) wrap up a 3-game series in Boston and go for a sweep of the Red Sox at 6:10 PM. Cincy has won 5-straight games.

 

  • Tonight, the NBA Finals gets underway with Game 1 in Denver between the Nuggets and the Miami Heat. The ball goes up at 7:30 PM.

 

Sports From Wednesday:

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (25-32) enjoyed last night off and will be off once again this evening. The Redbirds start a 3-game series in Pittsburgh tomorrow night against the Pirates. Despite being 7 games under 500, the Cardinals sit just 5 games back of first place in the NL Central.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (24-31) could not complete a 3-game sweep at home, as they got stung by the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3.  

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (26-29) won a 5th-straight game as they topped the Red Sox in Boston, 5-4.

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (23-35) got thumped at home by the Los Angles Angels, 12-5.
