Yesterday, Black Township Fire and Rescue in Posey County began their summer camp for children ages 12-17. During the camp, children get to learn what the fire service is all about, and even get the opportunity to get their hands dirty. The camp will continue July 12, July 19 and July 26 from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM with lunch provided. Upon completion of the camp, participants will receive an official BTFR summer camp t-shirt along with a certificate.
Posey County Royalty Pageants posted on Facebook that the deadline to register for the 2023 Beautiful Baby Contest has been extended. You can still get your kiddos registered by midnight of Tuesday, July 11th. You can visit our Posey County Radio Facebook page for the link to register. An $18.5 million renovation of the University of Southern Indiana’s Health Professions Center is underway. The center houses the University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions. According to a release, the renovations began in early May, promising a new look and a state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. Currently, the renovations being made include the Clinical Simulation Center, food and nutrition lower-level test kitchen and food science space, Radiologic and Imaging Sciences suite, and dental hygiene and dental assisting remodeled Dental Clinic. Officials say the final phase of the project is expected to begin in 2024.
Workers who have been laid off may be eligible for free schooling. It’s part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program put on by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Those eligible will receive training to earn a post-secondary degree as well as job search assistance, at no cost. Even if you have a job now, you could still be eligible. Officials will be at Central Library in Evansville next Wednesday and the Boonville-Warrick County Library on Thursday. They can meet with those interested from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility says they are extending the Bill Relief Program for its second year. According to a release, this is to help income-eligible individuals and families in the community lighten the cost of their utility bill. Officials say customers who reside inside the city limits, have city water service and have a total household income of $50,000 or less may qualify for assistance. Those who qualify will receive a $10 monthly credit applied to their account for up to 12 months – for a total savings of $120. Customers who are currently enrolled in the program will have the opportunity to re-apply for a second year of credit. EWSU says they will email enrollees before their one year of credit is complete with instructions on how to re-apply. For those who are interested, you can apply by visiting the EWSU website.
Next week, Deaconess Sports Park in Evansville and other area fields will host the 2023 USSSA Fast Pitch Great Lakes National Championships. The tournament will host 175 teams of fast-pitch softball players from around the country, drawing 6,000 athletes and visitors to the area. Along with the tournament, the USSSA Pride women’s professional fastpitch softball team will make another stop in Evansville this summer during the Women’s Professional Fastpitch Exhibition Season. The Pride will take on the Texas Smoke on July 10, 11, and 12 at historic Bosse Field. The event is expected to generate more than 2,300 hotel room nights and nearly $2 million in economic impact for Evansville and the surrounding area.
