The Posey County Fair continues tonight in New Harmony, and it will be free admission for First Responders. General admission is $8 per person and free admission for children 10 and under. Tonight from 5:00-7:00 PM there will be Meals by Extension Homemakers. Other events this evening include the Kids Pedal Pulls at 6:00 PM, Mud Volleyball at 6:00 PM, the Talent Show also starts at 6:00 PM, the Mt. Vernon Jazz Band performs at 6:00 PM, and there is the Truck, Farm, and Semi Pulls at 7:00 PM. You can see the complete list of event details online at poseycountyfair.com.

 

A man accused of rape has been arrested in Posey County. Sean Wilkey is facing charges after being accused of raping an underage girl. According to an affidavit, authorities were contacted in November of 2022 in reference to a sexual abuse investigation. Officers say the victim accused Wilkey of raping her back in 2019. Officers say during the investigation they found text messages between the victim and Wilkey where he apologized for forcibly having sex with the victim. When interviewing Wilkey, police say he admitted to some of the allegations, but claimed parts of it to be consensual. An affidavit shows Wilkey also told police that he texted and apologized to the victim. Wilkey is facing a level three felony charge of rape.

 

A Mount Vernon man will serve prison time after being convicted of selling meth in Posey County. According to a press release, 35-year-old Brandon Robinson was sentenced Tuesday to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty. Officials say as a part of his guilty plea, Robinson admitted to delivering between one and five grams of meth to an undercover informant in August of 2020. Robinson was arrested by the Posey County Drug Task Force in ‘Operation Lockdown,’ which ended on May 14, 2021, with 16 others charged with drug-related charges. At sentencing, Robinson faced a possible penalty of three to 16 years in prison. During the hearing, officials say the maximum sentence was requested after evidence showed Robinson has a lengthy criminal history, including prior conviction for dealing meth.

 

Posey County officials say an Evansville man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to damaging and attempting to steal a Mt. Vernon Police Department vehicle. According to a press release, 40-year-old Anthony Wayne Mayes has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges. Officials say as part of Mayes’ guilty plea, he admitted to causing damage while exerting unauthorized control over a Mt. Vernon Police Department emergency vehicle, as well as possessing a syringe upon his arrest on April 18th. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, police records show that officers found several items of equipment and wiring scattered across the parking lot of the Mt. Vernon Public Safety Building on College Avenue. Officers say they then found Mayes in the emergency vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance. Mayes has been charged with theft, auto theft, unlawful possession of a syringe, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.

 

A winning ticket has been sold in California for the Powerball jackpot worth an estimated $1.08 billion, the sixth largest in U.S. history and the third largest in the history of the game. The winning numbers for Wednesday night’s drawing were: 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 and Powerball 24. The California Lottery said that the winning ticket was sold in Los Angeles. Final ticket sales pushed the jackpot beyond its earlier estimate of $1 billion to $1.08 billion at the time of the drawing, moving it from the seventh largest to the sixth largest U.S lottery jackpot ever won. The winner can choose either the total jackpot paid out in yearly increments or a $558.1 million lump sum before taxes. The largest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion Powerball in November. The last time someone had won the Powerball jackpot was April 19 for a top prize of nearly $253 million.
