Another busy night of events is planned at the Posey County Fair this evening. Tonight is First Responders Night, which means First Responders get in for free tonight. Otherwise, it is 8 dollars per-person and kids 10 years of age and under get in for free. Tonight’s meal is provided by extension homemakers from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the community center. You will have the option of a minute steak meal or a fried chicken meal.

Several events start at 6:00 PM. Those events include the kids’ pedal tractor pulls – including big kids, the talent show in the community center, and motorcross barrel racing in the main arena. Then at 7:00 PM the truck car and SUV drag races take place at the Keck Gonnerman Track.

 

An Elberfeld man has been ordered to spend the next decade and a half in prison. The Posey County Prosecutor Thomas Clowers says 30-year-old Cody Smith was sentenced to 15 years on several charges, including dealing meth. He says Smith pleaded guilty and admitted to selling meth to an undercover informant, twice. Smith was arrested last year in May as part of “Operation Last Dance.” 20 people were arrested during a raid on May 25th. Smith wasn’t found during the initial raid, but he was caught a few days later. He’s been in the Posey County Jail ever since.

 

The Knights of St. John 57th Annual Bierstube gets underway tonight and runs through Saturday evening. There will be live music nightly and the Beer Garden opens nightly at 6:00 PM. The Daniel Williams Band will be performing tonight from 8:00 PM until 12:00 AM. On Friday it’s JB and the Tried and True from 9:00 PM until 1:00 AM. Then on Saturday it’s Kenna Elpers with Jagger Whitaker from 9:00 PM until 1:00 AM. They encourage you to come celebrate 100 years of service and charity to the community for the Knights of St. John #282. There will be dine-in and drive-through food available all three days. This evening it will be dine-in only and there will be sandwiches available. Then on Friday and Saturday starting at 5:00 PM there will be chicken and sausage available for dine-in or drive-thru. Knights of St. John is located on Winery Road in Wadesville.

 

ProRehab has announced that they will be expanding their business into Mt. Vernon. In a Facebook post they say they will now be bringing the town of Mt. Vernon and surrounding areas the excellent quality of care and expertise ProRehab has to offer in a convenient location. They have not shared any other details outside of the fact that they are expanding into Mt. Vernon. More details will be coming soon.

 

The Town of Poseyville has announced a Poseyville Blood Drive on Monday, July 29th from 1:30 PM until 6:00 PM. It will be at the Poseyville Community Center on 60 North Church Street. Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club has announced a date for a Family Swim Night. That will be on Wednesday, July 31st from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM at Brittlebank Pool. It’s an evening of free swimming and free snacks.

 

University of Evansville President Christopher M. Pietruszkiewicz has been named to the IBJ Media Indiana 250 list for the second year in a row. The list includes 250 of the most influential executives across the state in an array of economic sectors. During the nomination process, IBJ Media, which includes Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ), Inside Indiana Business, and Indiana Lawyer, sought out individuals from across the state who have the most significant impact on Indiana's economy and its people. Through an extensive assessment, the organizations determined the distinguished group known as the "Indiana 250 class" for this year. IBJ Media will publish full profiles of the honorees in an upcoming issue of the Indianapolis Business Journal and will be available online at Indiana250.com.

 

Tonight is the final night off for the Major League Baseball All-Star Break. The St. Louis Cardinals begin the second half of their schedule tomorrow evening with first game of a 3-game set in Atlanta against the Braves. The Cardinals are 50-46 on the year and currently sit in 2nd place in the Central Division. They are 4.5 games behind the 1st place Milwaukee Brewers. St. Louis does own the second of three wild card slots in the National League.
