Several fire departments gathered yesterday to remember a long time Mt. Vernon firefighter. Andy Granderson passed away this past Friday after a long battle with cancer. Granderson was a firefighter with Black Township Fire and Rescue for more than twenty years. Mount Vernon Fire Department members draped a multi-story flag across Main Street as a procession of cars and fire trucks from the surrounding area passed under it. Fire Chief Ryan Riggs says members of eight fire departments came to show their support. Following the processional, a celebration of life ceremony was held at Bethesda Church in Mt. Vernon with burial service afterwards at McFadden Cemetery.

A new paramedic program will begin serving people in Posey County beginning Monday. Officials say it’s aimed at cutting down on trips to the hospital and providing in-home care for non-emergency calls. They say a trip to the hospital isn’t needed for all medical situations. Paramedic Amy Woodley is in charge of the new program. She says they will also follow up with patients who are released from the hospital. This program is fairly new to Indiana. Scott Township in Vanderburgh County began theirs in January.
