A Mount Vernon man who was arrested during a Posey County drug bust has now been sentenced. According to a press release, 36-year-old Joshua Moore was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday. Moore and 21 other drug offenders were charged as a result of “Operation Last Dance,” an undercover drug investigation conducted by the Posey County Drug Task Force that started in June of 2022. Moore plead guilty to several charges that include conspiracy to commit dealing in methamphetamine, neglect of a dependent and resisting law enforcement. Officials say as part of Moore’s guilty plea, he admitted his girlfriend Katie Jones set up and delivered meth to a confidential informant in Posey County in August of 2022. The press release states Moore was arrested when the drug raid was conducted by local law enforcement on May 25th, 2023. Moore will be transported to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve his sentence.

5/3rd bank in Poseyville officially closed their doors last week. That leaves the people of Poseyville and neighboring towns with two banks. Those banks are Crane Credit Union based out of Oden, Indiana and First Bank based in Carmi, Illinois. Poseyville town historian Chad Williams shared on the History of Poseyville Facebook page that the original presentation of the building returned as 5/3rd Bank removed their sign. That uncovered the Bozeman-Waters National Bank markings which dates back to 1924. The building will turn 100 years old this year. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in October of 1987. The Building at 19 West Main Street in Poseyville is presently for sale. The website, Loopnet.com has the 2800 Square Ft Building listed at $450,000.

The Posey County Job Fair is today at the Posey County Community Center. It will be open for high school students from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM and the general public from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. We have been told that the Job Fair is maxed out with 32 employers planning to be on site.

After almost eight years in public office, Vanderburgh County Commissioner Ben Shoulders has announced he will not be seeking re-election. Shoulders says his resignation from County Commission will be effective tomorrow. According to a release, Shoulders will be accepting a different position in the private sector. Shoulders’ new position has not yet been released, but he says he and his family are “excited for and look forward to the next chapter,” of his career. He was initially elected into the Vanderburgh County Commission seat back in 2016 and again in 2020. Officials say at this time, former city councilman Jonathan Weaver has filed for the County Commission race.

Coming up tonight in local high school sports…North Posey Girls Basketball wraps up their regular season with a home game against Forest Park at 7:00 PM. The Vikings are trying to end a 3-game losing streak as they are 8-14 on the season.

In local college action…both the USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball team is home on campus taking on Western Illinois. The Women’s game tips off at 5:00 PM as the Screaming Eagles have won 8-straight games. They are 12-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in OVC play.

The Men’s game will follow at 8:00 PM as USI is trying to break a 4-game losing streak. They are 5-15 on the year and 2-5 in the OVC. Tonight’s game is on ESPNU.

From the NBA this evening…the Indiana Pacers welcome the Philadelphia 76ers to town for a 6:00 PM game. The Pacers are hoping to snap a 3-game losing streak. Indiana has a record of 24-20.
